A friend of mine asked me about this and my reply  was "do you turn your fridge off at night?"!
Strange analogy - I have neither my phone or fridge in my bedroom at night so they can both stay turned on without any worries of disturbing my sleep.

It depends on the “motivation” to switch the phone off imo and where it is overnight.
Typically mine is in another room charging

If you turn it right off you're going to use a surge to get it to load up, wake up and come to of a morning.
I no longer have anyone who will call me in an emergency. Only the bright and early risers which I am not so I turn the volume off and put it face down.
I can still make calls out if it's me who has the emergency.
It's very old and uses very little battery when not being used.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Modern phones are meant to be left turned on. They have a Do not disturb option that can/should be set when not awake.

How much frozen food is there in your phone!😃
  • I have heard that it can actually do your phone some good to be switched off completely, at least on an occasional basis.

Over and above that, I'm simply looking to extend the periods between chargings, a process which I find annoying - my phone is beginning to own ME rather than the correct way round...

The idea is that you set times when you don’t want to be disturbed.

Turning it off won't help much with time between charging because when you turn it on it has to do lots of housekeeping which will consume battery. (Eg connect to network, check the message database)

Just charge up to 80% or whatever you want , in the morning while you are getting ready for the day.
