Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes two parcels go through their scales at the same time, making an item appear to be heavier than it is. Evri have admitted to me that this can happen. It is what it is.
I used Evri for years and probably received about five requests for additional payments. I didn't pay any of them as after the first one I started photographing the parcels on my kitchen scales, showing the weight. I just had to tell them that I had photographs proving that the parcel was within their weight bands so their request was unreasonable and they cancelled it. Yes, it was a bit of effort but that's how things go sometimes.
Of course, if you want to take the issue of false invoicing up with Evri then I am sure you could find some support for this. Good luck.0 -

Bit late to this, but the same thing has happened to me twice, both times I queried it without getting into any great detail about the contents of the parcel, and both times they let it go. Which does rather suggest that they can't rely on the data from their own weighing system, as has been suggested.

Its automated false invoicing ..Evri or anyone can and do dress this up with any excuses they want....oh its a one off mistake sorry.... next automated payment demand...ching ching !
Its been going on for years
They are making extra money from the more vunerable people who pay these false demands.
The exact percentage of customers paying out we will never know but it will be serious amounts in total annually if they are doing 700 million packages
Even the OP stated they can understand why people just pay these false demands just to stop further threats which are for the sole purpose of illiciting further profit.
Automated Invoicing demands are not only happening with Evri in the uk ....far from it .
Evri are lightweights at this they are just trying it on because some people do feel very threatened by these fake demands.
These dressed up demands work on the low hanging fruit unfortunately but that doesnt make it right and why they continue to do it for years now .
They know very well that this sharp practise has financial benefits1 -
I’ve found out why Evri/Hermes are cheaper than the rest? They slap “Out of Tariffs” whenever they feel like it .. even when they’ve lost it somewhere in a warehouse. I weighed & reweighed the most recent item and it was NOT over-weight. I think they should change their name from EVRI to NEVER-AGAIN0
