Speeding - first offence

Received a NIP today for driving at 56 mph in a 40 zone.
Was on an A road that has a few short 40 areas but generally limit is 60.
Have sent it back and admitted offence which is a first offence on a clean licence.
Any chance of a speed awareness course or was it to much over the limit.

You may be unfortunate here as I believe it is up to and including 53mph in a 40mph zone to be eligible for a speed awareness course.2

To fast for a course (10%+9), the cutoff is 53 MPH.2

As above. But it is within the range for a fixed penalty (£100 and three points).1

Yup. Fixed penalty (£100 and three points) will be the offer.
Make sure when accepting it that you submit your driving licence details as directed. Although you have probably already done so (when identifying yourself as he driver) you must do it again as part of the fixed penalty acceptance.
If you don't there will be no reminders and no follow up. You will simply be prosecuted in court Then you will be looking at four points, a fine of a week's net income (reduced by a third for your guilty plea), a surcharge of 40% of that fine and about £90 costs.
If you have to submit your details by post, take a copy and get a free certificate of posting from the Post Office.1 -
It'll be £100 and 3 points unfortunately. The good news is that a single SP30 offence with 3 points on an otherwise clean licence will have only a very small effect on your insurance premiums in most cases (it may have a larger effect if you're a new-qualified driver). So it's a bit of a pain in the rear end, but not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things. If you start racking up any more points, that's when it'll start to hit harder.1

Better still use a signed for service. No much point, I'm afraid. Large organisations such as the police ticket office do not sign for individual letters. They are delivered in bulk and it is impossible to find out whether or not any individual letter was included in that bulk. When you look at the Royal Mail tracking information for such a letter it simply returns "N/A".
Proof of posting is the best you can do.3 -
Hopefully it can be done online!0

As predicted, the £100 and 3 points has come already.
Have sent a cheque as I will at least know it has been cashed as my proof of posting.....0 -
