Barclays Travel Pack Plus – Changes 14.2.25 Invites Cancellation of Policy?

December 2024 Barclays announces changes to its Travel Pack Plus.

We have used this for years, but some 9 pages of complicated changes means we have cancelled our policy with immediate effect. This is possibly what Barclays is aiming for?

Joint pack holders no longer accepted- only 1 person (pack holder) can give instructions.

Pre-existing conditions previously agreed will have to be re-agreed, following a new medical assessment online, and may (probably) attract a fee for the “upgrade” (time limited 12 months), or you will not be covered.

Annual online submissions required.

Advise them of any prescribed medication or repeat medication.

Adverse weather conditions – cover removed.

Transport delays – decrease in cover.

No health cover overseas, if they deem it can wait till you get home.

Staff discounted fee – cancelled.

The above is my initial interpretation of the changes and may or may not be accurate, but the “small print” means we would never know if we were covered for travel. The policy is more complicated than ever.

I expect many travel pack plus holders will be cancelling?

Very disappointing development.

Barclays have been downgrading its travel pack for a few years.  Not surprised at some of these changes except for the staff discount.  Then again it's another sign that they don't much value their staff I guess.  I suspect that some of these changes will make it easier for the actual work of travel cover to be done off shore.

Do you have a link to the proposed changes? Online is only for April 2023.

Most of those "changes" are not changes of any materiality other than possibly the staff discount but not sure there are many Barclays staff on here. For example, any pre-existing condition that required payment for cover was always an annual payment. Medical is always for emergency treatment which by definition isn't something that can wait.

I got the info about changes through the post. It seems a big change on pre-existing conditions. We have a list of agreed conditions for my OH, most of which are covered under the standard package, but as I read it we will have to pay extra for them and renew that list every year - currently they just stay as is until we notify them of any changes. I think that's where the big problems are gonna be for us.
