Hi
I'm waiting for a delivery from eBay, sent RM tracked 48.
I got a message earlier today that it had been delivered at 10:28.
But I haven't got it.
I messaged the seller and they have sent me proof of delivery - which is to a house the same number as mine but not my house.

The seller says:
Hello
Here's your proof of delivery.
I can't really do anything from this end as it's been fully tracked from my point of view.
It shows door number & parcel pic it was slim enough to go through letterbox too.
If it isn't your door maybe a neighbour has it?
If your postie is being fraudulent then you would have to contact Royal mail I suppose.

Is it my responsibility to chase Royal Mail?

I've not yet responded to the seller.
I propose to send a photo of my door.
I'm also going to ask for a photo of the proof of posting to see what postcode was used.
I've checked and my delivery address is correct on my eBay account.

Thanks

  • I don't know the answer to this but the delivery office that delivered it, was it the one that delivers your post?  If it's not then that's very strong evidence should you need to press this further.

Yes, it's the same delivery office that my letters & parcels come from.

Did you not check the tracking yourself? Have you seen the photo? Do you generally have issues with deliveries?

Was it a private seller or a business?

We had a similar issue the other day but when looking at the tracking the photo showed the parcel on a table with a ton of others and the place looked familiar. Thankfully when we moved 6 years ago it was only 200m down the road so walked back to the building's concierge and sure enough the parcel was there. Turns out the Mrs had forgotten to update her address on the site she rarely uses so it'd been sent to the old address.

I did check the tracking as I'd had notification from RM that it as due to be delivered today.
That's when I noticed it had been delivered, went downstairs but no parcel.
I was surprised because my postie - who is very reliable - usually comes between 12pm and 2pm.
    So, no issues with deliveries.
The photo shows the same number as mine but it's not my door.
So, it has been delivered but incorrectly by Royal Mail.

I'm not sure if it is a private or business seller but they have 99.1% positive feedback.

It's clearly a Royal Mail issue, not the seller, but who should chase it up?
I have no contract with RM.

  • I just had exactly the same issue as you.

RM delivered but not to my house and the seller didn't want to put any effort into resolving the issue.
I phoned Royal Mail (details on the RM site) who initially told me it was the sellers responsibility. When I explained that the seller was not interested they agreed to find my parcel for me. They use GPS tracking and quickly found the parcel had been delivered to the incorrect address (GPS showed it had been dropped off a few streets away). It took a week but eventually they got it back from the wrong house and delivered it to me.

It's actually the sellers responsibility and you can reclaim your payment if you do not receive the item; however, as it's your local postie, you might find that waiting for them to pass by tomorrow and asking him/her they will recognise the doorway in the photo and be able to retrieve it for you

Does the tracking also have the GPS location ?  You need to screenshot them pdq as they have a habit of disappearing.
They should be sufficient proof if you need to go to court.  I do hope you give the seller a neg for being an ...., it is the seller's responsibility to get the parcel to you, not some random house with the same number.

If you can save the photo (or screenshot) of the house it was delivered to, try feeding the image into Google Lens. It might come up with the address in Google Maps. I've not tried it for this purpose but it's worth a try.

A neg for something that is clearly not the sellers fault?
I'll stick you on my blocked bidders list...

You were lucky, when my item went missing last year I spent ages with RM and ebay and RM actually confirmed that they had the full details of the address it was delivered to, and it was not mine. Tracking showed it 7 minutes away by car. They confirmed in writing that they would try and recover the item, and then confirmed person who has accepted it refused to give it back.

They said that they apologised for their lack of service on this occasion but couldn't help me any further and seller needed to refund me and make a claim. Seller's claim was rejected as they used a business account with no compensation for loss. Ebay confirmed I wouldn't win an INR and after looking into seriously taking RM to court, ebay gave me a good will refund of the total amount.
