  • We received the report today and it was very thorough.
So the excruciating 2hr 20mins for my wife MAY lead to an award as adding all the points up comes to 18 for care and 22 for mobility - She has scored even more than last time but the downside is she had recommended a review in only 2 years.
    Ah excellent news.

Just quickly... erm... another example of a long telephone assessment proving more helpful.

In terms of prognosis/review period. 2 years would mean the award is likely for 3 years as they add a year for to do a reassessment (although given recent delays could go beyond that)

I challenged my PIP award length successfully not so long ago. I agreed with all of the descriptors they chose and the decision but not the award length. It seems to me it could be a low risk option to ask for reconsideration on the award length if they do indeed award for 3 years (or less) and you're not happy about it. Refer to my post in a thread of mine linked below for maybe an idea or two on what could be written.

How many years did you get and how many points when you challenged this?

They awarded 3 years - there was no assessment including paper based this time.
Awarded 6 years after reconsideration request.

Daily Living 23 points & Mobility 10 points in the decision, and reconsidered decision, and indeed previous decision.

I felt the reconsideration had little chance of success and I wasn't likely to pursue to appeal. But it required little effort to make the reconsideration request and given I was agreeing with all descriptors selected again I felt they were pretty safe. I had had a recent Severe Mental Impairment form completed by my GP for council tax purposes and as that indicated a permanency of disablement I felt it a good chance to take a shot at utilising it. I'm not sure which of my points detailed in my reconsideration for a longer award were influential as they never really justified their changed decision other than to say they looked at the evidence available.

I asked for a longer award when I had my review this time and I made sure I stated why I thought a longer award was justified. I had a paper based assessment this time and my award was increased Enhanced for both parts for 6 years. Previous awards were for 2 and 3 years at a time. I still think that it should have been 10 years but no energy at the moment to challenge that decision. The decision was made middle of October, I think.

My wife has still not heard anything back from them regarding this and its coming up to 3 months.
We phoned the DWP last week and they said its still to be looked at, does this seem right?

We are a little uneasy that they are purposely dragging their feet with making a decision to wait for the PIP changes to take effect later this month (as reported) and make her go for another assessment or give her a reduced award in accordance with any new criteria the government may introduce.

It does sound a bit slow to take a decision after the assessment... not sure if others are experiencing such delays.

I wouldn't worry about potential changes... anything affecting criteria is likely to be some way off after the green paper later this month.

We have still not heard a peep from them after her assessment in December, does it normally take this long?
everytime we ring them to chase we are promised a call back by a decision maker and they never ring.

    What could be the delay?

We did have a enhanced UC review a few weeks ago and the guy said its a check for all our overall benefits they want to check could this be linked to the PIP?

Have you tried contacting the assessment co?
Any text from PIP stating that they have received the assessment?

UC has nothing to do with PIP, so that will not be any part of the delay.

Yes the DWP have received the assessment report because they sent us a copy a couple of days after the assessment.

I would make a complaint,  about the length it's taking and no-one returning promised call back,  as don't see a downside to it
