No mobile data/3G/4G since holiday

Just retuned home from an overseas holiday where my partner and I both used a Saily eSIM.  We are home now and turned the eSIM off and selected my original mobile number as the primary number.  I can send texts, iMessages and make calls etc but only via wifi, I do not have any mobile data/3G/4G (whatever its called).
My partner does though.

We've compared phone settings (we both have iPhone 14 Pro) and the only difference I can see is i do not have a 'mobile hotspot' set up, and she does.  I understand this is just for piggybacking an ipad etc from, so shouldnt cause me to have no mobile data

At present I have no mobile data so cant use Google maps for satnav or even make a call when away from home.  Any ideas please?  any settings to check?
I've tried a reset and powering my phone off, using airplane mode etc but nothing.  My partner had issues with her iMessaging earlier in the week but a 10 minute power off resolved it and it seemed to find itself again.  Any ideas please?

The first thing to check is that you have mobile data turned on.

sorry yes, mobile data is turned on.  When away from Wi-Fi the top corner of phone where you see the Wi-Fi signal strength it just cycles between phone reception bars and occasionally the ‘E’ symbol

    Turn phone off
    Take sim out
give it a gentle kiss and polish
    put it back in
    try again

    Any different?

Tried that but still nothing. Where you’d normally see the 3G/4G symbol in top right hand corner there’s a symbol looks like a satellite?  (Not the airplane one when in airplane mode)

     occasionally the ‘E’ symbol

That's 2G, check in the phone settings, network selection or such, that the SIM is set for full range, 5G/4G/3G/2G.
    Evolution, not revolution
  • Check the APN settings are correct for the SIM card you're using. In Android search for "Mobile Networks" in settings then you'll see the Data Roaming options and Network Modes for the different SIM Cards, in this section is "Access Point Names".  Check they are correct - and add a new one if necessary for the SIM card you're using in the UK

    Confirms you're not getting cellular/wi-fi

"A satellite icon on an iPhone's status bar indicates that the phone is using Emergency SOS via satellite to contact emergency services when it's not connected to cellular or Wi-Fi. This feature is available on iPhone 14 and later models"

It's an iPhone 14 Pro, but I'm sure it's similar for iOS

Do you both have physical SIMs for your primary numbers? Occurs to me that no-one has suggested swapping the SIMs, would show if the problem is the handset or with the network service.

Thanks everyone.  After an hour chat yesterday with Vodafone on their website help, it turns out they'd put a bar on my cellular use while I was away, but not on my partners?  no idea why, but all resolved now

    Thanks again everyone!
