Best way to use

in Heat pumps
I have just had a new Samsung heat pump installed, looking for advice on the most efficient way to use it? We have a 4 bed house, we are out at work all day and like a cool house while sleeping. I was going to put it on auto mode and set timers but read this is an expensive way to use it? Any advice on best settings to use would be really grateful for to keep our electric costs down.

I'm no expert, but in very broad terms the advice seems to be:
- Don't expect it to respond as fast as a gas boiler
- Use as low a flow temperature as you can get away with
- Use weather compensation to adjust the flow temperature in response to changes in outdoor temp
If you're comfortable sharing more info on your system, I expect someone will be able to give specific recommendations.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

Thank you, it’s an Elite Samsung 170/50 air to water heat pump if that means anything to anyone?0

Similarly I currently can't decide whether to keep the heating for longer at a lower flow temperature for better COP or for a few hours less at a higher temp. I currently switch off an hour before bed and have the heating come on towards the end of my cheap overnight tariff. But then I don't know whether to keep it on all day or switch if off until a couple of hours before I'm back from work.
Some sharing of experiences on how others have got the best from their systems would be really useful here.Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.

You could operate a heat pump in much the same manner as a gas boiler. To do that you would set it to run at a fixed output water temperature and make that temperature as high as the heat pump will allow. This will give you the fastest rate of heating that can be achieved. It might make sense if you are mostly out and just need bursts of heat for a short time.
That's not the most efficient cost effective way to operate a heat pump if you need a house that is consistently warm. In that instance follow @QrizB's advice; use weather compensation with the settings tuned to match the needs of the house, using the lowest water temperatures that will keep your house at the temperature you want it to be.
You might need to experiment to find which approach best suits your needs and your budget.Reed1
