Given the choice I would definitely go for the cavity wall insulation.

In reply to question, some of the barn is open ie living room, dining rooom and kitchen partly. The rest is rooms that have doors. I usually only have 4 or 5 of the 12 radiators on and still seem to have very high consumption of oil. I get around 800 litres delivered 4 or 5 times a year and it is a Worcester Heatslave combi boiler which is 17 years old. It is serviced annually.
