all of these figures are making my £93/month seem very out of line.

other than pcs,tv (small lcd) and lighting I cant see where else its going.
yes we have a tumber dryer but we dont use it that much (maybe 3-4 hrs week)
we have an induction hob (pretty efficient) and an electric oven that we dont use that much...
I used to have a signature with links to the League Tables for good/bad shipping charges for Northern Ireland. But I have since learnt that this is against site rules - so they are no longer here! PM me if you need them

Mine is £75 per month. It rocketed after the wife had twins and we needed a tumble dryer. 3 bed semi-detached with 2 part time workers and 3 kids in the house.

Remember, if you leave the PC's on with just a screen saver on the CRT when you’re not using it, it’s STILL using up to 280 watts per hour of completely wasted power.
  • I have 3 bed semi, occupied most days and all nights. 2 adults and 1 child. Oil heating, using oil for hot water in winter, NIE electric mostly in summer. Electric showers. Tumble drier that my wife uses all the time! I leave my pc server on 24/7 as I have it performing security functions, but switch of the monitor when not being used. 1 CRT tv (on ~8hrs day). Very little on standby. Electric oven & dishwasher. About 50% low energy bulbs throughout home and I constantly go around behind my wife switching off lights that have been left on.

yes I know that - my 1 pc which is running continously is a htpc (it needs to).
    Its using 115watts

by my calcuations this is costing me £28/qtr (i.e. about 10% of my bill) -
thats 10% I can account for - its the remaining 90% thats a bit of a mystery.

unit cost £0.115 kw 0.115w per hour £0.013225 per day £0.3174 per week £2.2218 per month £9.522 per qtr £28.566

Ours seems to be quite low/normal compared to you all. We have a small dishwasher, not using a tumble dryer atm, and usually have a tv & laptop on a lot during the day. Often two tv's in the evenings & both the dvd players only shut down to standby unless unplugged at the wall. I have energy bulbs in most of the lights and 15 watt bulbs in rest, I'm light sensitive so don't like it too bright anyhow. I also tend to use a lot of fairy lights but usually have the other lights off at these times.

We pay a DD of £25 per month - detached 3 bed, 3 reception house .. it would probably be less but I am a gadget freak.

Consider getting some remote sockets to eliminate this

    They work a treat
The ones I got worked absolutely wonderfully ... I wired all my Christmas tree lights up to them and with the push of a single button "taaa-daaa" .. just like Blackpool illuminations. The only thing was every time a flamin taxi came near they went off, sometimes they may come back on, if he used his radio ... it is at times like this that you find out just how many flamin carry outs your neighbours order.

£100 a month for detached five bedroom house with granny flat (total of 4 adults and four children with 3 of the adults at home during the day). Most of it goes on the tumble dryer and PC's, I think.
Most light bulbs are low energy (including some 1w led's) and I think this helps.
I bought one of those gadgets that monitors your usage in realtime to see if any savings could be made but I couldn't really spot anything that would have made much of a difference. It did show that very little was being used when things were on standby though.

declanh...£93 a month for 2 adults and 1 child does seem high. I too am running a couple of PC's for several hours a day and also have a home cinema projector running as a TV. I'd understand if you were feeding a 60" plasma display from that htpc but you say it's just a small LCD.

going by the rest of these posts, I think my £38 per month for 2 full time working adults is a bit much, think I am definitely going to get one of those efergy monitors, like a previous poster however I would like to get hold of the promotional code to see if can get it any cheaper!

I'm single and at home all day every day in a studio flatlet. It's f00kin' cold at the moment. Taking hourly readings and I appear to be using 1 unit per hour. Which would work out to about £80/month. But I refuse to be cold for the sake of a few quid - and I only have a single fan heater as heating, which I have turned on 24/7 (although it is on an inbuilt thermostat)
