In what order should I do these things when setting up my new phone?

Options

Hello

I’ve ordered a new phone that I’ll be collecting in a couple of days.

I’ve changed my SIM deal and have switched to Lebara and got my SIM card in the post from them.

I want to keep the same number on my new phone and I’d like to transfer photos and apps from my old phone to my new phone.

So I’ll have to put the new SIM card in my new phone, port my number over to Lebara and transfer photos and apps to my new phone.

But in what order should I do those things?

Thanks

You can get your PAC code now, its valid for 30 days.  Y
ou just need your new temporary number.  Once you have that and given it and the PAC code to Lebara your old number is transferred which happens around 11am the next weekday (assuming no bank holidays get in the way) it's ready phone or no phone.

Everything else you can do when you get your phone as you won't be able to do it without a phone :D

If its Android you can just sign in to your Google account on the new phone and all your photos and videos should be on your Google Drive already.  Your contacts will come down.  If you have WhatsApp you can do the back up on your old phone to Google Drive, set it up on the new one and restore the backup.  You don't need any other apps for that when its all built in.

With Apple you have choices... if you've the phones side by side they can directly transfer apps, data etc between the two if they are on the same wifi.

If you dont or dont want to then you can either restore from iCloud which will do the same but download data from the iCloud but download apps from the the AppStore.

If you dont want to replicate all your old apps you can skip the restore and simply sign in to the same iCloud account which will synch your contacts, messages, passwords, iCloud files or whatever else you've set to synch but give you a clean slate from the apps and setting perspective.

    It's Android. I've ordered a Samsung Galaxy A35 5G.

I got the PAC code last week.

How do I back up WhatsApp onto Google Drive?

Don't I need to transfer my other apps from my old phone to the new one?

Is there any particular order that I should do those things once I get my new phone?

Depends what you need to achieve.  If its all through stock apps and its on Google Drive, it sorts itself out.  So the answer for the mots part is no.
In most cases if there's an export you do that, then set the app up again and reimport it.
Apps you can just reinstall from the Play Store.

    What'sApp backup/restore is documented here:

Thanks. I've had my current phone for seven years.

I have a subscription to Malwarebytes Mobile Security. Will this subscription automatically transfer across to my new phone or should I just cancel the subscription if my new phone doesn't need Malwarebytes?

You can find the subscription key in the app on your old phone, note/copy it down and enter into the app on the new phone.

Paid-for subscription isn't needed. No problem with keeping the free version and running ad-hoc scans whenever.

Thanks. I've tried to find the subscription key for Malwarebytes Mobile Security but I can't find it anywhere.

I've asked chatgpt (which I often find very useful) but that hasn't helped either.

I've registered Malwarebytes with the email address for my Google Drive but I still can't find the subscription key.

Can anyone suggest what I should do?

    Thanks
