Text from UKSearch in my ex partners name

in Water bills
My ex-partner and I shared bills, and he was the sole account holder. Recently, I received a text from UKSearch in his name about a named water company that supplied our water during our shared living. They asked him to check his account (with an account reference) for a letter. I’m concerned about several things:
1. Should I inform my ex-partner about this text, even though we haven’t spoken in months?
2. How did they obtain my number if my name wasn’t on the utility account?
3. Would debt collectors pursue me if he doesn’t pay since my name wasn’t on the account?
4. Could this be a scam?
5. Should I inform them that this is the wrong number, or will they continue harassing me if I respond?
This is the second text from them. The first was ignored as a scam, but this one is more specific, making me more concerned.

In my days, long ago, for the utilities we supplied we would chase anyone who was living at the address during the supply irrespective of if they were named on the account unless they provided a tenancy agreement saying the landlord was responsible. We didnt supply water, and laws may have changed, but would be surprised if they had.
UK Search appears to be a tracing debt collector. It's not too hard to find who lives at an address and then not too hard to find telephone numbers for people... many overshare online plus there are all the official records out there.
Its up to you if you respond, if you tell your ex or if you give them your ex's details1 -

Probably. These people can be aggressive and relentless when chasing debts. You do not need to be stuck in the middle.2. How did they obtain my number if my name wasn’t on the utility account?
If you ever spoke to them on his behalf, or used your number to call etc, it may be in the notes. Or they can find you because you lived with him and trace you that way.3. Would debt collectors pursue me if he doesn’t pay since my name wasn’t on the account?
Depends if your name is on there. If you lived there and used water, you may be liable. Water companies can do this without your consent or knowledge if you failed to pay but used the services. Check your credit report and see if they have connected you.4. Could this be a scam?
Possibly but unlikely.5. Should I inform them that this is the wrong number, or will they continue harassing me if I respond?
You should advise them that he is an ex-partner and he does not reside with you if this is true.0 -
Is the affected property the one you’re still living in?0
