CURRYS insurance

I bought a TV and 13 years later I received a letter about the insurance cover (I had no idea) I had taken out at purchase. £10 a month.
I wrote back and requested proof of the communications they had sent and to what address, telling me about this cover. I asked for proof of payments and any changes. I asked why they thought I needed to pay over £1500 cover for a TV that cost less than that 13 years earlier.

They wrote back stating they had cancelled the cover at my request (I did NOT request cancellation).
They offered to pay the sum back in full.

IS THIS a get-out? Should they be approached about supplying insurance unnecessarily and offer additional compensation?

    Why?

You obviously took out the insurance at the time.

Accept the win and move on.

You mean you never noticed the £10 a month going out of your account for 13 years?

Get into the habit of checking far more often to pick up on stuff like this that is agreed to at time of purchase.
Usually would go out to your email address, but would have been signed for when purchasing TV.

They do not have to refund anything. They could have kept on debiting each month until you called them to cancel..

Not had much luck with currys have you?

You must have authorised the payment at the time.  Take the refund.

My original text - I asked them to provide proof that I took the cover - THEY HAVE NO PROOF. This is my point. They cannot provide ANY written evidence of my taking cover in the first place. Your message seems sarcastic. Currys are not a good company.
  • A full refund is a great result, accept it before they change their minds.

Of course you'll still have the original invoice, so what does that say that you purchased?

If its currys it will be a service plan not insurance.

It's an optional extra at point of sale, its normally an indefinite contract and continues until either you instruct them to cancel it or, for some devices, it hits a certain age.  Unless they want to increase the price or such then they won't get in contact you after the first signup.

Your getting a full refund, what more do you want?

Hopefully a good lesson in checking your statements!

So, to be clear.  A company contacts you, points out that you have been paying £10 a month for 13 years, which you hadn't noticed, then offers to give you back all the money, and you want more?

Companies do not need to hold written evidence for anything over 6 years. Storage is very expensive.

Clearly they have proof of your details as they have been taking funds for 13 years. & it has never been contested...

I do have the original details, and there is no information for anything else.
