I've been taken to court

Unpaid parking "fine" and now I have a letter from HM Courts & Tribunal Services.
DCLB are the ones taking me to court, I am bang to rights on parking at a garage car park for two hours that is for staff only,
I have now got a claim for £511 which comprises of:
Amount claimed £411
Court Fee £50
Legal Costs £50
I have probably ignored previous letter for the original £80 "fine" but it does seem unfair that they're claiming for a total of £411 claim and like they're marking their own homework by plucking a figure out their backsides.
Am I better off just to pay it and get the drama and stress done and dusted or do I have other outs?
Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer.

No you are never, ever better off just paying a parking court claim.
DCB Legal will discontinue in 2025. You'll pay nothing. It is a numbers game with little or no intention to reach hearings.
Please read the second post of the NEWBIES thread first. Then ask any questions after reading it (Thankyou). No link needed.
But after reading that advice and finding the Template Defence that you will be using, do show us the Claim Form with the same FOUR REDACTIONS you see on every picture of every claim form on all the other threads like yours. Again, no links given.
See my signature if unsure where to click.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Have you perhaps received a Claim Form from the Civil National Business Centre?
If so, what is the Issue Date on it?
If you have filed an Acknowledgment of Service, upon what date did you do that?
Your MCOL Claim History will have the definitive answer to that question.

Yeah it's a Claim Form from the Civil National Business Centre, the issue date is 21st November 2024.
I have just signed up now for the MCOL website and have navigated myself through it.
I have not acknowledged anything yet and would appreciate further advice.1 -

Since that time, the Claimant has been free to seek a Default Judgment against you.
You are now in a race. Suggest you file an Acknowledgment of Service without delay. To file an Acknowledgment of Service, follow the guidance in the Dropbox file linked from the second post in the NEWBIES thread.Having filed an Acknowledgment of Service in a timely manner, you have until 4pm on Tuesday 24th December 2024 to file a Defence. That's just two weeks away. Plenty of time to produce a Defence, but please don't leave it to the last minute. To create a Defence, and then file a Defence by email, look again at the second post on the NEWBIES thread - immediately following where you found the Acknowledgment of Service guidance.Don't miss the deadline for filing a Defence.
Do not try and file a Defence via the MoneyClaimOnline website. Once an Acknowledgment of Service has been filed, the MCOL website should be treated as 'read only'.2 -
Thanks Keith.
I have submitted my Acknowledgment of Service on the MCOL website.2 -

I have left this almost last minute and have read through the thread but where should I send my defence to? Is it ClaimResponses.CNBC@justice.gov.uk?
I'm dealing with DCBL and I was "fined" after parking for two hours in a petrol garage staff car park. Is there a specific thing I should mention and should I just use the standard letter I've copy n pasted below. Sorry but I find it slightly confusing.
Dear Sirs,
Your Ref. ############
Proposed Legal Proceedings
Claimant: xxxxxx xxxxxxxx Ltd
I refer to your your letter of claim.
I confirm that my address for service for the time being - assuming you don't faff about and delay any claim - is as follows, and any older address must be erased from your records:
[Correct address here]
The alleged debt is disputed and any court proceedings will be vigorously defended.
I am sourcing and seeking independent debt advice and as such, I formally request that this matter be put on hold for an additional 30 days, in accordance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims 2017 ('the PAP').
I note that the amount being claimed has increased by a hugely exaggerated amount which the Government called "extorting money from motorists".0 -
Ignore that letter, the time has passed for that.
You need to file your defence. Go to this thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6108153/template-defence-to-adapt-for-all-parking-cases-with-added-admin-dra-costs-edited-in-2024/p1
You just need to make paragraph 3 about your own circumstances (in the third person). Come back here and paste your version of paragraph 3 (we don't need to see the whole defence)
1 -
If you've done the AOS and said you will defend in full, then you are no longer in a race. Stop reading the wrong things.
You were given a link by Keith and instead of reading about your stage as he told you to - CLAIM FORM AND DEFENCE - you read about responding to a letter before claim. I'm confused why? This is so easy.
You're using our Template Defence. And you don't even need to write para 3 yourself either!Read any other DCB Legal claim thread now. Grab the paragraph everyone is using which starts 'Regarding the POC' and that goes in with just ONE DATE for you to change,
And one line to add at the end of para 2 of the Template Defence (fully explained in the thread). And of course the right claim details at the top (...do not put the Claimant as DCB Legal...) and add your signature and the date at the bottom.
PLEASE don't show us the whole Template Defence here.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I feel I'm getting there albeit very slowly.
I have found this template, am I supposed to copy this and adjust to make it a bit more personal? 35 bullet points seems excessive for a parking charge.

You are defending a court claim from a private parking company, not a parking charge, so your defence will be around 30 to 35 points, the chance to appeal the parking charges disappeared a long time ago
Which parking company is it ?
Post a redacted picture of the POC, after hiding the VRM details first
Your paragraph 2 needs an ending ( template defence paragraph 2 )
Your concise paragraph 3 rebuts the POC on your claim form , as explained by coupon mad below
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6575385/registration-entry-error-vs-civil-enforcement-ew-dcb-legal#latest
10 minutes work to do both, then post your proposed paragraphs 2 & 3 below, for checking
Once approved, slot them into the template defence, replacing the 2 template paragraphs , save as a pdf
Then email the pdf attachment to the CNBC, to the claim.responses email address1
