Virgin Renewal too high - put my 30 days cancellation in. Partner will take a fresh contract out?

Hi all,
Looking for some help and advice really. My Virgin contract ran out in October I think, and it had shot up to £60 (we were paying £23 for broadband). I've been unwell over this past few months, so I didn't get a chance to resolve this.
I see that Virgin have their black Friday offers expiring at midnight today, I did the math and we are way better being a new customer.
I tried their live chat yesterday, but their prices were still too high so I've put my 30 day notice in.
Now normally, I would try and negotiate something within this 30 day disconnection period on my existing account, however the Black Friday deal (which expires in a few hours) for new customers is much better.
I was advised by someone that I should get my partner to sign up today using this black Friday deal, and put the installation date 1 day after disconnection. In the meanwhile, I should wait for retentions to call me and see if they can match this.
If they do match it on my existing account, I'll get my husband to cancel the new contract within 14 days (14 day cooling off period)
If they don't, then my agreement will end and it'll switch over to my partners.
My main question is - If my partner signs up tonight for their black Friday deal, is it really that easy to cancel within the 14 day cooling off period?
If we were to wait, we'd lose the black Friday deal in case retentions can't offer me a good deal.
Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance!
