iMessage logged out after using overseas eSIM

Just got back I from holiday and used a Saily eSIM, had a few teething problems with it due to me being a technophobe. Got there in the end. Just turned our eSIM back off now back in the UK and my partners iPhone is saying
‘an error occurred and your account is signed out of iMessage. You may miss messages as a result. Please go to Settings to address this issue’.

I didn’t get this error message. Had a look through her settings but couldn’t see anything obvious, except in ‘Messages’, iMessage is turned on but when you go into hers, her mobile number seems to be loading, rather than selected (almost like the egg timer whirring around)
