Pension credit cancelled

If you live alone or with only other disabled adults, it adds the Severe Disability Addition to the Pension Credit calculation, thus raising the threshold to be entitled to it.Murphybear said:
Having a state Pension and 2 small works pensions I was not eligible for Pension Credit but did get about half of my rent and council tax paid. After talking to Citizens Advice I applied for Attendance Allowance and received it. CA also advised me to apply for PC again and I did get it. I don’t know the technical reason but getting AA changes the threshold for PC. Now I get all my rent and council tax paid.OutdoorQueen said:As above, I would also suggest an appointment with Citizens Advice. Is he claiming Attendance Allowance? If the situation with Pension Credit is correct, ask them whether Attendance Allowance could be claimed. This is not means tested and unfortunately doesn’t bring the same advantages as Pension Credit but could still mean some extra money.2 -
He doesn't get attendance allowance, he got disability then got carers element a few years ago. But he's got industrial injuries benefit 66 since 2010. It's gone up to 66 slowly over years. But all thus was included in pension credit claim. He was awarded 37 a week including guaranteed credit which meant his rent, council tax and dental treatment was covered. Applied in Feb 24, response in Sept 24 saying he was eligible as above extra 37, and backdated to Feb application. All of a sudden, gets a letter early December saying IIB was new and meant he wasn't eligible. However breakdown showed IIB, but calculation actually showed he was eligible when you add breakdown up. Front of letter said he's now 2.00 a week pension credit but loses guaranteed. But breakdown shows he's still eligible. Tried CAB, they agree something wrong with calculation. I need MSE feedback

I think they can make the assumption about the amount of DB pension that a person could be getting but opts not to and allow for this in the calculations (I think they do if people defer taking public sector pensions) but a DC pot is more difficult - how much does someone drawdown in a year ? or maybe they take the lot, spend it all and then reclaim?Rubyroobs said:
Surely if people are eligible to claim private pensions then they should be made to take them rather than claiming pension credit ? I think it even asks on the Pension credit form whether you have private pensions you are not claiming?Brie said:As I understand it it's one of those carp benefits that for the sake of 1p you do or do not get it. I know people who are not looking at pensions they should be paid because they are insignificant compared to the benefit of getting pension credit.

If they do ask for the overpayment back, tell them it's official error, not your father's fault. The PC app does not ask for that info. They should have checked it.

It is very difficult to work out whether your father is entitled to Pension Credit or not.
Your posts are confusing. First you say he does get Attendance Allowance and then you say he doesn't. His amount of Industrial Injuries Benefit also changes. Plus you say he does get a small amount of Pension Credit but not the Guarantee part? You also mention Carer's Credit.
All of the above plus any savings can make a difference as to whether he is eligible or not.
If you can find out exactly how much income he has coming in plus his savings plus amount of rent and council tax due then you can do a benefits check yourself by using www.entitledto.co.uk and putting in all the correct information.1 -
It's the claimant's responsibility to make sure DWP have all the correct information, but they have no control over what DWP do with that information. Realistically we do need to point out obvious errors when they happen, but if people don't know there's an error then evidently that can't do that.peteuk said:
