Storm anxiety

Wasn't sure where to post this tbh.
Anyone else get storm / weather anxiety? We live in West Wales, and our house is in a hilly location and we get the brunt of the weather at the best of times.
I'm absolutely shi***ng myself about the night ahead. I rarely sleep when we get storms like this and the wind is battering the house. When we had an amber wind warning a few years ago we lost a few tiles, so god knows what this is going to do.
Anyone else feel the same?

They make me pretty nervous too. Oddly a lot less so when we're in our old van out in the western Isles being battered by 80+ mph winds, the main issue then is timing of hounds pee breaks in the lulls. Less frightening than fence panels and all manner of things flying around though.
Especially nervous this time as several skips and scaffolding next door but one, glad they've got their roof back on though.
Next door and I were remembering last time it was as windy as forecast tomorrow, our adjoining shed roof tried to take off, think we'll let it go if it tries tomorrow.2 -
My wife hates storms. Don't know why, it creates work for me. 87 was the best one.0

Yes me too, I stress about it and end up making myself feel ill.

You can reduce risks even if you can’t eliminate them. Almost all deaths and serious injuries in storms are people being struck by objects while outside, including in cars. Much less frequently by damage to the property they are in. So moving things that could blow over and then staying indoors makes sense. Staying off roads helps the emergency services. Having candles in case of power cuts and a battery radio or battery pack for a mobile phone is sensible. Know where spare blankets are.I can’t sleep during storms, so I half listen to an audiobook.Fashion on the Ration

If all the damage that can be caused is insurable - and insured - then relax. In fact, snuggle under t'duvet and get a perverse enjoyment out of it.
This is what insurance is for.
If, however, you have vulnerable fences (not covered), large trees (often ditto), a flat roof in less than sound condition (ditto ditto), then it ain't good.
So, yes, I'm sh***ing myself
I was meant to be collecting a geetar around 45 miles away in South Devon tomoz, but put that off. Still tempted, tho' - it could be exciting...1 -
Also in West Wales. Everything that can be blown away has been moved to a sheltered spot but beyond that, there's little I can do about it.
Been to the garden shed to discover a window has already blown out so one boarded up window.
Was easier when I moved here because there was an eight foot conifer hedge between me and the neighbour so garden was mostly sheltered but he had that removed so I get the full force of every storm.0 -
Cheers for the replies.
Yes, everything insurable is insured. I just dont cope well with things sadly. I suffer from anxiety anyway, and worry about money, health etc, all sorts…..Tonight, from 3am, I will probably be awake worrying about getting hold of a roofer if tiles go flying. Worrying about things hitting my car etc.
I sleep with white noise on anyway, so I’ll probably hunker down in the least noisiest of rooms and blast white noise until I’m deaf.
Out of interest TIW, what guitar you picking up?? I actually have an acoustic gig tonight and have a 45 min drive home. Why havent they cancelled it I have no idea. The main act is coming from Cardiff, unreal.1 -
I'm holding off worrying. In the past month the Met has declared 400mph winds, 400c heat and night time at 3pm instead of 5pm. Their new system is off kilter. The last storm they declared didn't come to us. It was great, everyone stayed in and I got prime parking in town and a peaceful walk.I've been down to look at the sea which does a certain thing in stormy weather isn't doing it. The birds that feed in the garden when a storm is coming haven't been doing that and the wild fowl in a place near haven't reacted either. But then I don't watch or read the news about these storms. Garden furniture laid down, hopefully the big pot with the Christmas Bay is secure enough because I lost some pots a couple of years ago and that was expensive. They are on discount this year though so that's a bonus.I tend to go to the side of the house away from the wind, N then E it seems it will be, where it's quieter and snuggle down and enjoy a book from end to end because I know no one will come bothering meChristmas Baileys and Whisky is in, lots of mince pies and a freezer full of food. Now I'm probably the one that will have something happenPS So now you know why the big conifer hedge was planted! I had conifer trees in my old house on the East side for that reason. The new people have cut them down.ThisIsWeird, please don't drive if you don't have to. I came back in torrential rain and wind yesterday and it wasn't that, it was the dimpsy dark and everything looked black so you couldn't see the distance to other cars or side of road. 'Orrible!MrBrindle leave early to avoid the worst. Please.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The geetar is an Aria electro-acoustic, now't special, but at a price it would be rude not to. And a nice reason to visit Bovey Tracey.
Like many, I GAS to cover up a lack of skill, so this will be for son at Chrimbo.
Well done for being nicely insured. Seriously, even the worst case scenario will be sorted. And knowing it'll be sorted should allow some calm :-)
I mean, what's the worst that could, er, um...0 -
After the 87 storm deposited some of our roof on my beautiful little sports car I could never rest easy during windy weather. But time is a great healer and I've got over it now, unless anything nasty happens tonight!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.2
