In Search of Obsolete Boiler Spare Part

My elderly father's boiler broke down last week and we are trying to find a replacement thermostat. The boiler is a Stelrad Ideal Slimline Mexico CF55. I wondered if anyone could help, please? Dad is very frugal and doesn't want to shell out for a new boiler just yet.

My Ideal Mexico (1998) had a problem a few weeks back. Plumber said no longer available but advised me to ring Ideal Spares to see if they could help. They tracked down the part number for me, and we eventually found one in stock locally.
The spares team number is 01482 498665. If you haven't got the original manual then have a google for it, I found and downloaded mine which had a parts diagram which gave me the info I needed to talk to Ideal. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Which thermostat, MM? The one you turn to control the heat output? If so, I'd lay odds there are generic 'stats with similar vials/sensors available. I recall doing this for my bro's ancient oil boiler, but he was able to give me the dimensions.Or is it an overheat 'stat?0

Try The Heat Xchange - They seem to have stocks of all sorts of obsolete parts for many boilers. They might be able to suggest an alternative part. But a word of warning - Many Gas Safe engineers will refuse to fit a part if it isn't a genuine spare and matches the part number given in the manual. And forget a second hand spare, as I doubt any GS engineer will fit one.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
You might be able to find the manufacturer's part number on the thermostat. A number of Ideal Mexico's use Ranco thermostats.
Another potential supplier is Gas Boiler Spares / Boiler Parts UK - Keeptheheaton.com
Your Dad might have to bite the bullet on a new boiler, but it's worth trying to photograph the thermostat and using the photo to help you see the manufacturer's name and part number, and then trying to source a new one.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
