Freeholder 'forgot' to charge ground rent

    OP said at the bottom of their first post it would be about £600 total outstanding..

    They suggested later that they were charged for the first year, which suggests it may be either £150 or £200 per year.

    As part of the conveyancing, the freeholder will be asked about the situation with the ground rent. The freeholder might take the opportunity to demand payment for up to the last 6 years.


    If not, the buyer has to bear in mind that they might have to pay up to 6 years retrospective ground rent at some point.

    So for example, if the ground rent is £100 per year and unpaid for over 6 years, the buyer might reduce their offer for the flat by £600. Or they might not bother.
