NEW SCAM - PCN fake Letter

Options
NEW SCAM: I received the following letter which looks like a new type of scam.
1. The location - unknown to us
2. Vehicle reg - our vehicle
3. Photo evidence - different vehicle
4. Date & Time on photo - 17 July 2024

The only information that is correct is vehicle reg and keeper's details.
I am planning to ignorre this completely.

Looks like someone stopped to drop-off at Luton Airport - could that have been you or someone else who has access to the car?

Can you see the plate in the photo? sometimes it's a digit being read wrong - perhaps an N for M or W

It's not a scam though - if you do ignore eventually you'd get a court case and CCJ if you continued to ignore and did not defend.

Best to sort it out now.

    Definitely foolish to ignore it

Definitely not a scam, but probably a VRM misread

Check that picture of the different vehicle for the VRM details ASAP

Respond to state that the vehicle in the picture is clearly NOT your vehicle and they should check the photos carefully

Add a picture of your vehicle to the response to show it as a spot the difference

Complain that your DVLA data has been unlawfully accessed so is a breach of the KADOE contract and possibly a GDPR breach to too

Tell them to cancel the PCN and to send you written confirmation with an apology as soon as possible

I thought a PCN could only be given by a local authority ie the council? Anything else is an invoice. Similar, but not the same.

Isn’t there a particular part  of this MSE website that’s dedicated to helping with parking problems?

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

Depends what the letters 'PCN' stand for.

You're already on the appropriate forum.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Post 5 in the newbies sticky thread in announcements deals with acronyms and initialisms

The joint BPA & IPC  CoP also give guidance on these expressions

Its no coincidence that the private parking companies chose the same letters

We would prefer to see it renamed to PPN or similar when the new CoP arrives

Looks like a real operator, IPC member. Universal Parking Enforcement Ltd. New one on me. Very unprofessional looking NTK.

    Please show the back too.

They were using Debt Recovery Plus to do their KADOE up until recently, then have switched to Unity services ~ 6000 DVLA pulls a year

@fisherjim posted about them recently https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6569249/a-naughty-ppc-talking-about-prosecutions-and-chasing?utm_source=community-search&utm_medium=organic-search&utm_term=naughty+PPC
