Passed MOT not showing on DVLA 3mths later
Got my car MOT'd in August. It had failed initially then passed after repairs. Wasnt given a pass certificate but was given the invoice stating passed and valid till Aug '25. Reputable garage and all discussions at the time confirmed car passed MOT and the breakdown of work carried out was provided.
Tried to tax car today online but no current MOT on record. Can only find details of the failure.
Going to goto garage tomorrow to highlight the issue but want some guidance ahead of time to prep
Do I assume garage just forgot to update DVLA record ? or could this be an error that could be at DVLA with their clerical processes. can the garage resubmit pass details backdated to Aug? If the garage has record of repairs that were needed for car to pass MOT and the invoice stating it passed. Is this enough for them to produce an MOT cert now without seeing my car as my husband has the car and is away from home for the next 2weeks.
Thanks

What does the DVLA believe the status is? You can check at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
If that says it is not MOT'd then the garage won't be able to just produce an MOT cert (not that they exist anymore anyway as they are all online).
If it is not MOT'd then it should not be driven until it is. Your husband will need to get one booked wherever he is and the first time he can drive it is to that pre-booked MOT.
Taking it up with the MOT station you used is a parallel task.1 -
Sounds frustrating!
It’s possible the garage didn’t properly update the DVLA system after the MOT passed.
Definitely check with them first—they should be able to backdate and resubmit the info if it’s their error. If not, contacting the DVLA directly might help clear things up.
Hope you get it sorted soon1 -
I doubt the original garage will be able to issue a back dated MOT now, the best they could probably offer is to do a new one for free. The 2 weeks away is the problem with that, as you’ve proven since August not having an MOT is not a major problem it’s a non endorsable offence (no points) just a fine. An no your insurance is not invalid without an MOT.Not having the tax is a bit of a problem because of the potential for the car to be clamped and the fees to get it back and pay for the tax (which you would need the MOT for). Can he organise an MOT where ever he is?2
