  • The garage we bought the van from ... the guy has gone on holiday to DUBAI. He's absolutely convinced that the part he was supposed to send down was delivered yesterday, except it wasn't. And when I rang the warranty company to double check that he had actually put the claim in, they said the claim was for a total engine failure, which it isn't, and they are waiting for photo evidence.

Also it's a head gasket that needs replacing, rather than new he's stripped one off another van to send down. But oil seals and gaskets aren't covered under the warranty.

So I am in an absolute pickle and want to scream.

  • That doesn't sound like good practice, I wouldn't want a "pre-used" head gasket to repair a fault
  • I agree, I would be asking for my money back got the vehicle as its not fit for purpose.

Did you pay for any of it on a credit card ?

  • Unfortunately nothing paid on credit card, was part ex and bank transfer. I am going to wait another week, and then see where I stand. Mr Fox isn't getting his kids this weekend and the football has been called off so thankfully we don't need to hire a car.

Posted an Amazon return this morning (£13) and sent off my Vinted parcel (£3.50). Also rang the old van insurance and got the amount outstanding haggled down to £141.28 from £295. I have to pay that within 4 days though, so I will pay in my £100 emergency cash to do that, otherwise lots of fees will get added. By haggling, my debt 'repaid' has tipped over £8000. Total debt currently at £43,020.65, and once the insurance cancellation is paid, it will be under 43k!  I would have got there a lot sooner if I hadn't borrowed more. But still, we are close now.

I need to get the boiler serviced this weekend. My weekend plans are now consisting of packing, packing and more packing. The goal is to get the attic emptied, Mini Fox's bedroom packed up, our bedroom packed up, wardrobes listed for sale, armchairs listed for sale, and the last of the Vinted bits listed.

Have also just worked out via discussion with one of my work friends that I am paid (pre tax) £521 more per month than when I started working for the Council. It will be 2 years I've been with them in January.

Well done for getting the outstanding amount down! And an extra £521 a week pay is very impressive. Roughly £400 after tax? Still huge.

It's Monday again. Only 2 Monday's until Christmas and I have bought no presents yet. Eek. Trying very hard to not panic about that.

Current bank balance hovering around £200, as I have paid off the van insurance one day before they added fees! Feeling very smug for remembering. Total outstanding is now £42,837.39PartyI still have £100 in my Emergency Cash. Hoping we get a solid moving date in the next couple of days, as the buyers solicitors are muttering about completion at end of January which might kill me off.

We've had a very low key weekend, total spends £27 on a small top up shop on Saturday, and a NSD on Sunday. Mr Fox and I played a game together on Playstation, and sorted the laundry together. Mini Fox and I made a god-awful banana and chocolate chip cake and deep cleaned her bedroom. I didn't list a single thing for sale and am not much further along with the packing though.... But at least things are more organised so I know where the things I need to pack are!

Glad to see your new diary @foxandflowers with the much more positive new name.  I hope things start happening on the house moving front soon, and that the van can be sorted out asap as well.

If the head gasket isn’t covered by the warranty, is the offer to swap back to your old van still open?
