  • Subscribed! Very good luck with the house move! You sound very positive and you have a good plan to repay your debts, happy for you. Regarding the step change debts definitely think about making offers of repayment directly with your creditors instead of dealing with step change . I’m sure there is money to save that way, starting with low offers.
I will be following your journey for sure and wish you all the best.

  • Having followed your diary from the start I am pleased to see a shiny new positive title. Hope the move goes well.
  • Congrats on the new diary for a new house.

I agree I'd come away from stepchange now so you can make offers on your debt. I read someone's diary today who offered 20% and the company countered with 25% so it's possible to cut the debt significantly that way.

It's lovely to hear you sounding more positive in your new diary. Move into your new house, get Christmas over with & you can make a new start in the new year.

  • I really hope everything goes well with the move and I’ll be following along with your new diary 😊 Sounds like a really positive reset and I’m wishing you all the best for everything going forward - you deserve it!

I downsized last year, moving from a house to an apartment. I love having a smaller space to look after, especially with me having anxiety/depression, it’s a lot easier to keep it clean and tidy. It also makes me a lot more conscious of what I purchase, as I literally don’t have the space to store it!!

    Xx
  • Afternoon campers. Thank you for all the love on the new diary :) Pleased to have you aboard.

I'm WFH today, Mr Fox has been hanging the laundry on the line and I am here to update you.
Still no news on the van sadly, I need to ring and chase it up. It's basically stuck with waiting for warranty approval so we can get the work done.

I've paid Stepchange today which is another £110 off the debt total. Currently £43,138 outstanding. This weekend I sold my sofa, and my bookshelves on marketplace, and my friend paid me for the hair, so I am currently £340 better off than I was on Friday. £150 of this is currently in a cash emergency fund. (I'm very proud of this)

We've gone ahead with the storage unit (I know, I know) because we worked out it is actually cheaper for us to hire that for a couple of months than it is to pay a moving company to move us. We won't be keeping it for any longer than 3 months, and Mr Fox is going to be going back and forth with everything over the coming fortnight or so (as soon as we have the van back), so that on the day of the move we only have to move our most essential items. The first month of the storage unit has been paid for by selling things - so I have £55 left to play with / assign towards debt. I'm trying to figure out what is best to send it towards - I think perhaps I will sit on it a few days until I've decided where makes most sense. Most things aren't interest bearing (only Mr Fox's credit card and Ramsden's currently are) which makes deciding a little harder!

Just a thought, but have you asked the garage for a courtesy vehicle ? You have been let down quite badly with a brand new (to you) van.

I think you should aim to have the storage unit for the minimum time possible - it shouldn't take 3 months. If  you just take it from when you have confirmation of exchange and get it all moved to the new place as soon as you complete, wouldn't it be possible to keep it to 1 month, unless of course there's a minimal rental period?

I like your new thread and upbeat updates. I hope you don't mind more money saving ideas being thrown at you. Mine are usually based on my own experience somewhere along the line.

Really wishing you well with this move and fresh start
