Very sensible Fox. It’s tricky when you and your spouse don’t agree. I personally discount kids’ opinions on this as they will always say yes to wanting pets without considering the work/expense 🙄. But it is harder to look the bad guy and say no if the other parent is up for the pet.
Hold your ground and apart from the money, puppies are also a bit of a bind so enjoy your freedom for at least a while til you get a new one.

@foxandflowers - That sounds really sensible re the dog situation. You need to get the new budget completely stable first for a year or two, then assess whether you can afford a dog. When our dear old cat was pts during the pandemic, we waited a few months because we missed him so much, then adopted 2 rescue cats from a local charity. It was eye-opening how much more expensive 2 were to look after - twice as much food, two lots of everything at the vets, 2 insurances, bigger cattery bills at holiday times..... We just wanted two & as our finances are pretty stable after getting rid of the debt, I didn't bother doing the sums on how much extra they'd cost. I have never had dogs but I gather they are more expensive than cats. I think it makes sense to hold back until you know the new budget situation is stable & has sufficient flex to accomodate dog expenses. Good luck with everything, F

Wahoooo that's great news about the chain being ready fingers crossed you get a date very soon then.
I agree ref a dog. If he really wants one why doesn't he start offering dog walking services? Such a good way to earn money whilst your daughters at school and help him see if he can really cope with taking it out for a walk all year round every day in all weather's. I imagine the novelty would soon wear off.
20th January is currently being bandied around as the moving date - eek! That is precisely long enough for me to start panicking.
I was doing REALLY well at having a No Spend Day today... until I went for a sea swim on my lunch break. I got side-swiped by a massive wave, lost my hat and glasses! Unfortunately whilst the hat was recovered, the glasses were not, so I have had to order some contact lenses so I can see... Boo. I will re-order glasses once we move, as currently I cannot spare the £100+...
On the plus side the warranty has approved £1500 worth of work on the Caddy! So hopefully we will be back on the road next week. FINALLY. Nine weeks later.
Please let my luck be on the up. Please.
