Hi, a little bit off topic but I'd have been attracted to the bungalow for the same reason that you were. I suspect that you'll gain back a lot of what it costs extra in heating on cold winter days during sunny spring and autumn days when you'll get the full benefit of warmth from the sun. I have big south facing windows too, and I fitted automatic curtain openers last year which transformed the living and dining rooms, which otherwise quickly got far too hot for comfort. They are linked in with presence, light and temperature sensors. When the room is unoccupied during daylight hours they close the curtains when the sun is shining and it gets too hot. Surprisingly effective and something for you to consider when the affected rooms switch from too cold to too hot.
