Car Insurance - Hastings Direct

Due to eyewatering prices increases I decided to move from Hastings Direct and go elsewhere.
One week after having made the change (in good time), I get an email from new provider saying there are (unspecified) discrepancies on my file and so my premium was going to be trebled(!). The vendor in question had a hopeless website and client service and I couldn't get to the bottom of the issue so cancelled and moved to Halifax. Three days after joining I get another "we've found issues". At least this time there was a list of the issues. Instead of 2 claims (fully declared on the application) the Claims Underwriting Exchange (CUE) database showed 4 claims, all within days of each other. No wonder they thought I was a liability. After 60 minutes on the phone with Hastings they agreed to update the file and notify CUE. Then another 60 minutes with Halifax. They accepted the update - but here's the rub - they still want to double my premium because of the mis-statements. As I pointed out, it wasn't me that was doing the misstating but the other insurer. I have lodged a formal complaint and will be looking for another insurer - to start in one months time, naturally. I didn't have access to the CUE database before searching the market - but anyone can make a Subject Access Request. I strongly recommend you check your details before you look for new insurance. Computer often says no, and it's not for legitimate reasons.
