HillStreetBlues said:Use Windows on-screen keyboard as that will narrow down the culprit.OK - The on-screen keyboard works fineMy USB keyboard - now - doesn't work at allAnd a bluetooth keyboard also doesn't work at all - it links straight away but doesn't function as a keyboardThis implies that it is a software issue rather than hardware....I may carry out a full rebuild/reset of the PC to try to resolve it - since there was no other software on it yet !

I have just reset the PC (using the inbuilt copy of Windows rather than a downloaded version) and discovered that the USB connected keyboard still does not let me type "spaces" - but the bluetooth keyboard works fineThe keyboard is not faulty - it works fine when used on my laptop and my Raspberry Pi !No idea why or what's going on.....I have not changed any settings yet !!

I've never seen anything like this in all my years working with PC hardware! It sounds like the problem is happening on a relatively clean install of Windows.
I'd be tempted to find somewhere in the BIOS where text can be input, or to create some kind of minimal Linux boot USB drive. Something to rule out Windows being the culprit.

A USB keyboard as about as basic a HID as you can get. Does it still glitch in a different USB port on the same machine?
Motherboard chipset drivers up to date, no yellow icons in Device Manager?0 -

If it is just in the browser try disabling all your extensions to see if that fixes the problem.
If it does enable them one at a time to find the culprit.

Device manager shows no errors
Motherboard drivers are all OK. No errors either
It looks as if this is an unsolvable fault

Have you tried booting up in Safe Mode? Been a few years since I used a Windows machine but it was helpful to debug issues.0

Have you tried a different keyboard?
A small Bluetooth connected keyboard works perfectly now - but the USB connected one still doesn't allow SPACES to be typed !!
