I ve had a fault on the boiler but it sprung into life this week when the pressure reached 1.9bar and switched on. ( Pressure had dropped to zero and it would nt fire up )
Heating was on from 9 am to 11 pm..Next day Octopus worked out I d used 106 kWh s ..about £6 at 6 p kWh on octopus tracker that day .
.detached bungalow with a 28 kw boiler ..A bit on the pricey side I thought so I might revert back to heating the person with a 400 watt Halogen heater0 -
matelodave said:Now I could possibly afford to get solar panels and even a battery, at 78 I'm probably too old to realise the paybackI completely understand the payback concern. It might be interesting to forget about solar, as it isn't all that much help in winter, and just work out how small a battery could bridge the gap between the Cosy low-rate periods for you...

TBH if I was all that bothered I probably would, but I'd rather get on with my life than keep worrying about how to extract the ultimate performance or efficiency out of stuff any more.
For most of my life I've worried about energy rates, energy performance, mpg etc and treated it as a bit of a sport - to a point that's why we installed the heatpump some 14 years ago - but now I dont worry quite so much. I cant really see the point of spending out on a battery to possibly save me a couple of ££'s a day.
Installing the heatump did, at the time, save money on running costs compared to oil, lpg or storage heaters but only if I chased the lowest tariffs (we've been with five bust energy companies) but now its probably on a par (we dont have mains gas).
I'm the same about cars, a few years ago I'd be champing at the bit to get the latest high tech eco friendly motor, now I'm more than happy with my 2 litre diesel AWD Kuga. I don't do enough miles to make the outlay on a car that costs nearly twice as much to achieve a perceived extra 10mpg or save even £1k a year in fuel costs. My mates magic hybrid Honda manages 10mpg less than my Kuga. Not only that his car wont tow my caravanNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
North Wales, 3-storey semi, built 2007. Oct 17 - Nov 17 used 559 kWh which just about covered our cold snap but it didn't snow 'till the 19th. We'll see what next month brings.
Used 780 kWh in same period last year, and that includes gas hob cooking.
Monthly;'s fine for us, I really can't be bothered in daily stuff - I'm a bit like @matelodave in that "I'd rather get on with my life than keep worrying about how to extract the ultimate performance or efficiency out of stuff any more"......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Just thought I'd restart this thread for the Nov-Dec period - it's been much colder this month than last, and included storm darragh, so....
Nov 16- Dec 16 used 1223 kWh as the mornings have needed a heating kick almost every day, just over double last month
Same period 2023 was 1173 kWh, so not much different at all.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

430kWh for November, and 300kWh so far this month according to Octopus web site. Last week or so, heating demand has dropped, so I should see a smaller gas bill at the end of the month. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
i'm now avg aprox 35kwh per day on a cold spell i could be hitting 55-60kwh, so thats working out aprox 1120kwh per month, but looking back on the app i was hitting 1500-1600kwh last dec, fair enough it was colder but i have had the loft insultated in sept/oct so i hope that is starting to pay for itself1

October 21 to November 21 we used 693kWh of gas.
November 21 to December 18 we have used 858kWh of gas. It's a couple of days until our bill is produced but it is mild so not expecting to use loads in the next couple of days.
These figures are for a six year old 3 bed detached house in the East Midlands and include gas for heating, hot water and cooking.0
