Chip App upgrade

Chip App now works with older phones. Too late for me, transferring ISA to company with better rate and an actual Website.

It's time for an upgrade... Perhaps leave iOS and shift to Android, where you're not locked into Apple.1 -
Checking the version history in the app store, there's nothing mentioned in the updates regarding requiring iOS 16. The three versions since 10 October 2024 have contained nothing but boilerplate "behind-the-scenes" updates.
Chip has effectively blocked account access for a subset of their customers without any advance warning or notification. The money needed to purchase phone upgrades to restore access could be held in the very accounts that are now inaccessible, as Chip does not offer an alternative means of account operation (web browser, phone or branch). The quickest method of contacting their support is via their now-inaccessible app-only chatbot, which leaves email as the last channel for official support (scouring social media and community platforms doesn't count).
For comparison to how an app-based provider should operate: Monzo emailed advisory warnings almost a year in advance, as they will require at least iOS 16 or Android 9 from 31st October 2025.

A cheaper way to sort it would be check the android requirements and buy a recent android for around the £100-150 mark, your phone is beyond where most apps needing security will be supported2

£77.90 access restored.

Or just log into the website, no app needed. Ignore me, I was mistaken.0

Chip responded with the below:
Please note that you will be unable to access your Chip account unless you upgrade to a device running iOS 16 or higher, as this is necessary for functionality and security purposes. In the meantime, if you would like us to withdraw any of your funds to your bank account, please provide us with the following information.
- A Photo of a government-issued photo ID: Passport, BRP, National Identity Card or UK Driving Licence (front and back) with all four corners showing
- A photo of yourself taken within the last 24 hours.
Additionally, please confirm the sort code and the last four digits of the connected bank account to which you would like the funds to be withdrawn.
In the meantime, I've raised a complaint.

We trust banks and financial institutions to look after our money, so it is important that they keep their security up to date - unfortunately on this occasion you have a phone which no longer gets updates from Apple, so it doesn't comply with the security they need to let you access your account.
*Also you're not the OP, are you the same person as @Szodiac? I think two accounts is against the rules.0 -
If you don't want to buy a new phone/tablet then your only choice jump though those ID hoops, take out all your money and close the account. It's an unfortunate aspect of the technology industry - they make money by making old stuff obsolete. If they chose they could maintain older versions of the OS forever and if banks chose they could support those OSs. Just be glad it's not your car:

If it were me I'd be looking to by an underpowered and very cheap android tablet on Amazon that has a modern OS version. Plenty of choice around the £40 mark for Android 13. Then just dedicate the tablet to banking apps and keep it at home.0
