Is this legal ? One Call insurance

I found myself in a dispute with One Call Insurance who have cancelled my motor insurance due to the insurer allegedly not covering my new address.
The policy was due for renewal on the 28/11/24 and I had found alternative cover with the same company but at less than the renewal price so took this out online and paid for it.
When I tried to contact the company via Live Chat (only option), to cancel the automatic renewal they had sent me, they informed me that since I'd moved very recently, my current insurer would no longer cover me to the end of my current policy but that they would give me 7 days grace to arrange new cover, but I wouldn't be covered for RTA - so basically not covered to drive. When I called them to clarify as I was at work and needed to drive home, I was told that I had 7 days to arrange cover and again they put this in writing on a Live Chat. I then arranged new cover with a different company to start from the date that they'd confirmed my policy was being cancelled.
Today One Call sent me an email telling me they would charge me for cancelling the policy. When I went onto Live Chat to query this, I was told I'm not insured to drive my car despite the advice I'd received, in writing. A subsequent call to the underwriter, KGM, and I've found they do cover my address! One Call have contacted me, reinstated the policy, waived the admin fee for change of address and offered £30 compensation. But surely this is fraudulent ?
