Foolish question about SKY HD

I have an old Sky HD plus box and I am thinking of cancelling Sky TV.  I believe that you can remove a card from the box to see what services you get after cancellation.  Is that right?  If I do that and then put the card back in the box will everything go back the way it was - ie will my recordings still be there?  This is on the basis I have not cancelled in the meantime.

I've done it before: took out the card to see the Free channels and put it back to pick up where I left off.
I think I powered off and on each time.
(Of course, it won't record whilst you've got the card out.)
That said, it was some years ago, as I subsequently moved to Sky Q and then away from Sky altogether.

While the card is out?  But after I put it back in will that work again?

Record, rewind, and pause are subscriber-only functions.

OK I suppose what I am asking is whether taking the card out will make the box think I am not a subscriber any more?  So that when I put it back in none of the record pause rewind or watch old recordings will work any more?  I don't want to lose the recordings before I actually reach the cancellation date.

Removing the card and putting it back in will not suddenly break it.

If you remove the card you will lose all record, rewind and pause functions and wont be able to play anything. These will work again as soon as the card goes back in.

Not sure why you are wanting to do this though, you can take my word for it.

Thanks.  I just wanted to see what it would be like if I cancelled.  Whether I would get by with using the old HD box or whether I would have to buy a new Freesat box.  I suppose a "can I live with not recording anything" sort of test.

yes power off the box and take the card out and power it back on again

spend some time looking at it and seeing what you would get without a subscription. for example you will not be able to play your recordings but they will still be there.

power the box off put the card back in again and you should be back to where you were
