travel agents refusing to give refund!!!

I worked for a well known Tour Operator for over four years before leaving to have my LO. I dealt with these situations on a daily basis. If the Travel Agent isn't being helpful. I would call the TO direct and explain the situation to them, if they can do anything without incurring any charges they will. Even the tight @ss company I worked for were understanding in these situations.
I'm sorry to hear about your lose and send my love to you and your family.0 -
Also if you piad the deposits on credit card you should be covered with them.0

Only if the cc covers you for this situation. It is not something that would fall under the chargeback facility.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Indeed. Credit card protection only covers you if the supplier fails to supply what they should. In this case, the supplier isn't doing anything wrong so the credit card company isn't going to help either.0

I would agree with the other comments, although the tone of dzug's post could have perhaps been a bit more compassionate, the advice in it is sound.
However that doesn't mean they will use some compassion in this case. If you are getting nowhere with the travel agent (Going Places), I would echo sparklygirl and say try the tour operator. You never know. Failing that, you could start with writing letters (politely of course), although I would say that engaging in exchanges of letters with travel agents is a very lengthy and often tiring experience and the reward at the end may not be worth the time and dedication it needs.0 -
my mom paid in full for a holiday 1 day before she died which was the due date she paid early by 1 day.
I called to cancel the day after she died and got told no refund. we got about 50% back and then they re sold the holiday which I think is all wrong.
I agree if they cant sell it on then you lose the money but if they sell it on they should refund the full amount.
They profit out of death its very wrongIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -

The holiday was sold out to the hotel she always went to.
I checked the web (Thomosn) and it was back on for more than she had paid 2 days later it was gone and when I called Fidela (receptionist) she said she would check who booked up around that date and ask tehm when they got there...she did this and told me they had been trying to get into the hotel for months but it was sold out for chritmas and then they saw 1 room come up and booked it for over £200 more than my mom had paid.
I rang Thomson with the information I had got and they virtual said TOUGH!!
We had cancelled it was up to them to refill the hotel and flight.
Its one advantage of my mom always using thet same hotel for nearly 20 years that I manmaged to get all the info but it still did me no good
I wanted to fight Thomsons all the way but I lot heart it was too much to take on just losing mom
BTW ...I tried to give the holiday away on here first becuase I knew what Thomsons would doIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
So what, saveapenny?
For every one case where the holiday is re-sold, there will be dozens where it's not re-sold, or it's re-sold at a loss.
The customer who buys a "re-sold" holiday would probably have bought another one.
It's not a net gain to the holiday company unless all their holidays are sold out - which they never are.
And it's not their fault that anyone fails to buy insurance immediately after booking their holiday which is a no-brain thing for anyone to do.0 -
You all know you would have the same reaction if someone in your family died so tragically. It's so easy to tell some to get real when you aren't in the situation. Shame on you!0
