This will heat a room in TWO MINUTES! And costs only £2 a day to warm a WHOLE HOUSE!
Which is pretty damned good, when "the average household might spend over £5k to keep warm over this winter".
This 'smart' heater costs only £2 per day to run!
If I had any doubt, it's over 99.8% efficient!

How the hell can they get away with this?
Time for ASA again...

Thanks for posting TIW. Those ads infuriate me.

I have seen a few recently on YouTube and they are trying to con people into buying excessively expensive electric heaters believing that they are going to save a lot of money. They won't save a penny and in fact will waste a lot of money on a ridiculously expensive piece of crap.

What can we do to stop them? Surely the ASA are aware of them. Are they powerless?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

    Lets be generous.
    20p kWh unit cost.

Must be a small well insulated room to cost £2 a day 🤣

I do see two factual claims that I could take issue with as being untrue -

'Revolutionary LumiWarm Sweeps the Nation!' and 'This device is shaking up the multi-billion pound industry!' (unless they mean shaking with laughter).

It's a cleverly worded piece of text.

    They say
It can heat a medium-sized room in just 60 seconds! I'm sure it can and if you have a sufficiently accurate laboratory thermometer you will be able to measure the 0.1 degree increase.

I am impressed by the safety feature
    Is it safe to touch?
Even on full blast it stays cool to the touch to prevent burns. It  won’t get hot enough to cause harm.

With a heating element of about 5W (about the same as an old-fashioned torch bulb) I am sure that is true.

Nowhere does it state the actual power consumption, nor any temperatures.

The ASA might take it down but it's a game of WhackaMole - next time springing up with a picture of Martin Lewis and claiming 'as featured by ThisIsWeird on the money-saving site MSE!'
  • All I was thinking, is who spends £5k a year heating their house. They must live in a sauna or a mansion!

It would be nice to see the people who come up with stuff like this sent to an establishment where they don't have to worry about the bills for a while.

Actually these things will save you a fortune on heating.

You simply spend your £2 for a few days then your house burns down and no more heating spend.

You may recognise the dangerous tat from the picture which have

Ohmaaagawd! Great video - really droll guy :-)
"All this talk about whether it could set my house ablaze, led me to wonder - could this heater set my house ablaze?"
And the ads - "Turns your bathroom into a sauna in seconds!"
This is incredible. And it doesn't even cover the fact that the energy saving claims are BS.

Just a general comment about these infuriating ads.

    They usually run like this....

.....  This is something Doctors don't want you to see! (A health or weight loss remedy)

......  This is a golden money opportunity and the finance industry does not want you to know about it, so it will likely be closed down quickly, so get in as soon as you can. (Investment opportunity.)

    And yes, that Heater one.

My laptop that runs my wifi is in the back room. But I listen to it in the Living Room, via blue-tooth.

So just picture me, running from the living room to the back room to switch the awful things off, several times a day!

  • Company you've linked to is based in Lithuania, a lot of their claims are possibly breaking EU directives but enforcement is probably lacking more so in Lithuania than it is here.

There's a Youtube video where a guy opens one up (different company to link as he was in the US) and comes to the opinion it's an over priced piece of junk.

These things are on Ali Express for under £20, website above compares theirs to others costing £250....
