I brought a kettle in 2022 made by a well known brand.
However the button which opens the lid of kettle has stopped working properly. To give context my last kettle last 22 years.
I'd expect it to. At least last long than 2 years before it broke/malfunction.
I've spoken to manufacturer who have come back to me and said it out of warranty.
I thought a product had to last a reasonable amount of time. 2 years is not really good enough.Life in the slow lane1 -
Just buy the kettle from Asda for £12, (ours bought for under a tenner is still working 7-8 years later) we have given up on buying expensive kit. As an aside I never open the lid and fill via the spout.
If you think kettles are bad how's your toaster doing? In my experience they are a lot worse for short lives.1 -
We seem to have got side tracked onto kettles in general. So to clarify.
Your consumer rights rest with the place you bought the kettle from. As it's more than six months since purchase then you'll need to show that the kettle is inherently faulty (IE prove it hasn't been misused/abused/accidentally damaged). If you can do that then you can expect either a repair or more likely a refund less an amount representing the use you've had of it.
This is where price and quality of the kettle comes in. For example, If you paid £50 for it then it probably wouldn't be expected to last much more than a few years with daily use. If you bought a dualit at £150 or an Aarke at £200 then you'd expect it to last considerably longer. If you paid £350 for an electric copper kettle then you'd expect it to last a lifetime.0 -
We gave up buying branded kettles as they were barely lasting two years. Our latest strategy is to buy the cheapest we can find. The one bright spot on the horizon Is that a dead kettle will fit inside a standard carrier bag and nowadays our local council will recycle it if we leave it in the bag on top of our recycling bin.
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

All the kettles we've ever owned have been replaced because they started to look somewhat tired rather than because a button broke or more importantly they stopped boiling water. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I find the button to open the lid often seem to break, so now I look for kettles without that 'enhancement'.0
