Malfunctioning kettle only 2 years old

Can anyone advise on where I stand.
I brought a kettle in 2022 made by a well known brand.
However the button which opens the lid of kettle has stopped working properly. To give context my last kettle last 22 years.
I'd expect it to. At least last long than 2 years before it broke/malfunction.
I've spoken to manufacturer who have come back to me and said it out of warranty.
I thought a product had to last a reasonable amount of time. 2 years is not really good enough.

Did the one that lasted 22 years have a button to lift the lid?locka said:Can anyone advise on where I stand.

It's still heating the water

I believe it did.
Yes my new kettle is still boiling water. But clearly is not functioning as it should be

To be honest kettles are one of the things that don't last as they used to.
Our last one (a Bosch) lasted 3.5 years it's predecessor was one my husband had when he moved from the EU and was freecycled - it was circa 12 years old and still working at that point.
The current kettle is a cheap one from John Lewis. When it dies, it will get replaced with another of the same ilk.0 -
The warranty is on top of consumer rights, as such they can add any terms and conditions they like, for any length of time they like. Your consumer rights are against the company you bought from, not against the warranty.locka said:Can anyone advise on where I stand.

Two years could be reasonable, or it might not be, it would somewhat depend on usage and cost of kettle, e.g. a £100 kettle would be expected to last longer than a £10 kettle.0 -

Couldn't agree more about well-known. I by what's best for me irrespective of brand name.Baldytyke88 said:locka said:

However the one you have now is about 99.9% efficient so you will hardly notice the difference.
Your next one will probably be a 'smart' kettle. You will be able to yell 'Alexa, boil that kettle'.0 -
Not if I can help it. I might work in technology but everything doesn't need to be smart. It just needs to. Work as expected and boil waterAlderbank said:

Rights are with the retailer but, a post on the manufacture’s social media asking why their kettles start to fall apart after 2 years might see a bit of goodwill from them.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
