How to turn on electric fire heater?

I am pretty certain we found out how to get this running a few years back - everyone remembers the smell of burning dust - but cannot fathom it now. Help, please - where's the fan-heater switch?
Or are we confused, and it's really just decorative? Thanks.

Is it under the front bit that pulls out?Life in the slow lane2

Three folk have tried yanking, but it won't budge.0

I'd say the same as born_again. Ours is similar, the controls for the lights and fan are at the bottom.

Make and model of fire? The manual would help. The whole inset fire will pull forward and out to find maker marks.
Often rocker switches under front top or along a side edge of the surround.
I have a Dimplex fire where the whole front grate slides forward (via the balls /uprights near the coals) to access the Optimist bits. But that has rocker switches above the fan heater hood under the surround for operation, plus a remote control.

No visible sign of make, sadly. I've searched the whole outside, and no sign of switches.
That bottom panel must come off, but it feels well stuck. Mil gets cross if I yank too hard.0 -
Have you tried lifting slightly before you pull it out?1

Mi switches are under the sloping flap above the “ coals”.1

On ours the switches are concealed behind the canopy, above the flames. On the left hand side on our fire.
