Nationwide Building Society - documents and statements now available in their app

I opened the Nationwide iOS app this morning to be greeted with a pop-up window informing me that documents and statements are now available in the iOS app (maybe Android too). A welcome addition as it can be laborious using online banking to retrieve my monthly FlexDirect statements.

When I checked the document library via the app, there was a document/letter informing me about the changes, which was issued 2 weeks ago! I didn’t receive a notification by email, or otherwise, to tell me there was a document waiting.

Anyway, I’m now able to download monthly statements for my various savings accounts as well as my current account.

Nationwide are Bit behind lol 😂 most banks already have this feature
  • I know! They might even implement transaction notifications sometime soon, separate to Apple Pay card transactions ;)

I wonder if the nationwide statements in the app are the same as online & paper copies (I don’t bank with them)

They’re similar apart from the font used (reverse page of the statement shown below but the transactions listed on the front page use the same narrowed font).

The app PDF version seems to squash and sometimes overwrites text in places but then it also spaces things out in other areas - a different font used, maybe Times New Roman? It also has missing apostrophes.

I saw the pop up notification in the app around the same time as the ‘Digital Vault Welcome Letter’ was uploaded. I think they’d have had some flak if they had posted letters to tell people this was now digital!

I’ve since had a letter uploaded that was also posted. So it’s not yet clear what form digital notification will take. Presumably an email?

I was in my Nationwide branch a few weeks ago (with a cheque for £9.50 that had been collecting dust for weeks) and asked them when they were going to get the cheque deposit facility on their app.

She immediately said -correctly- they're not obliged to have that but followed it up with something like '...we don't think our sort of customers would use it'.

Yeah, buying crappy banks will be good though.

They are hopelessly old fashioned, it makes we wonder why anyone would use them.

Haha, she missed an opportunity to cross sell Virgin Money as the VM app offers cheque deposits.
