I used to have a main image and then post a link to a web page with lots more pictures but it didn't stop buyers asking
    what colour the item was.

Although they put a stop to that generally I still look at a business sellers details to see if their email is a website.
Puzzles me why a business has a website and yet uses generic emails like yahoo or gmail. Use your website
domains email, it may get you more business if the stuff on your website is cheaper or for people that don't
    use ebay as much.

Bought some watch batteries off ebay recently and it took just as long to arrive as my order from AliExpress
even though it was from a UK business.

Soolin you always get items where some people are asking ridiculous prices.

I have an item on at £2 and it isn't selling , someone else has the identical item on at £18.
I buy a lot of high end hand cream/skin care/cosmetics on eBay.  The prices vary hugely.  I’ve occasionally seen products advertised at much higher rates than on the products website.  As a buyer if I see anything I like the first thing I do is check if it’s being sold by anyone else on eBay and buy the lowest price.

Maybe a combination of Temu/Shein/AliExpress undercutting UK based sellers, buyers have less ££ to spend, plus the 24 hour delivery/no quibble return on Amazon Prime means waiting a week for RM 2nd class from an Ebayer isn't so attractive.

And if you're selling anything tech, CeX give you cash in hand without the concern over fake SNAD/INR claims to try and scam a freebie.
Largely this I think.  I can wait two weeks for something to arrive rather than pay a fivefold markup by getting it on Amazon or eBay.

It's not necessarily excessive profiteering. I occasionally see items coming from China to the UK that cost less than I'd pay for just the postage within the UK. I don't bother selling anything from China any more, if it starts selling well some Chinese seller will undercut. There's now an increasing problem of sellers on these sites copying items sold in the UK and then making them cheaper.

I bought some earrings from China on eBay.  They were in the shape of a Christmas tree with twinkling lights.  I ordered them in plenty of time for Christmas.  About a week before Christmas I got an email from the seller saying he thought they had been lost and he refunded my money.  Half way through January the earrings arrived :D. I contacted the seller, did he want them back or should I pay for them.  He told me to keep them

The most amusing thing for me was that the earrings cost 80p.

  • This seems weird in the context of other comments in this thread, but since eBay introduced the 300 free listings/month I'm getting more watchers and more completed sales. I'm not a business seller tho... just selling off stuff from various collections that's accumulated over the years.

Ty beanie babies are a good example, lots of sellers asking £10+ each when a quick search of sold items show identical ones not selling at 99p.

As a buyer, I have stopped even looking at E bay.  Too many crooks!  Hard to tell the good from the bad.  Having my last few buys all going wrong (fortunately not high value), I have lost all trust.

Out of interest do you still buy online and if so where from? There are a lot of sellers on here and it is always useful to know whether buyers are using other sites or just not buying online at all anymore.

I've had a very quiet last few months, even after the fees were removed. When the fees were in place I had my ebay promoted listings all set at 2.1% based on something I read a while back.

As a test I bumped all my auctions up to 13.5% to replace the fees, and things have certainly kicked up. Though the kind of things that are selling may just be due to Christmas getting closer?
