Shares Bequeathed In A Will

Options
In her Will my mother bequeathed me shares in a FTSE100 company  We expect to receive Probate in the next few weeks.

Once that is received:

Is there a time period before I am able to sell the shares?

Am I correct in thinking that I should use her date of death as the base share price for calculating any gain I make as opposed to using the date I actually acquire the shares.

Thank you in advance.

  • CGT calculations should be based on gain from the value at the time of death.

If you've no plans to retain the shares. The easiest thing to is for the excutor of the estate to sell them. Then transfer the proceeds to yourself.
