Is Capital Gains Tax payable on shares which I have been forced to sell against my wishes as the company in which I owned the shares has been taken over?

    You must pay Capital Gains Tax on any cash you get as part of the takeover

    Yes otherwise there'd be few situations where anybody had to pay it, otherwise we'd all claim to have been forced into selling an asset against our will.

    Yup. It's the life of a minority shareholder I'm afraid, we're along for the ride. 

    Do you have any taxable holdings where you're sitting at a capital loss? You could crystallise the loss(es) to set against this gain.
