These are questions for renewing a UK adult passport online

a) When you add a photo to give (online upload) can you give a photo of your face
which meet their guidelines (light background, no hat, no odd smile etc)

and then use an online APP which crops it to a passport size, to submit that?

or can the passport company realise you have used an AI App to modify/crop your photo?

b)  Do you have to post your old passport back?

c) Once paid the £88.50

If yes to the previous question, what stage to you post your old passport back?

(after paying the £88.50?)

d)  How many days does it take to come back to your address?

e)  does that person who has submitted their passport and posted it have to be home to receive the new passport (delivery man knocks)

or they will the delivery man just post it through the letter box, and nobody has to be home ?

f) How many questionnaire pages are approximately on the Passport online site where you have to answer questions?

g) do you have to provide an email address for the application ?

h) do you have to provide a mobile number for the application ?

if you can answer all the concerns in a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) format, as best as you can

thank you xx

EDITED: added

a few more things,

i) What option is there to chose on the new passport being delivered back to you so that it is delivered just posted through the letter box, and Nobody has to be home to open the door, or sign for it.

is there an option for that? -that it just gets put through the letterbox, (like a normal letter).

j) when they post the new one back does it say what day it will come back? can you track it? is there a tracking number?

thanks.

Cropping is normally fine so long as the image maintains the required resolution. It depends what you mean by "modify", but any altering of the image beyond cropping will likely result in it being rejected.

     Yes.

They tell you when to post it back as part of the application.

    d)  How many days does it take to come back to your address?
That depends on the service you choose, there are multiple options.

Again, it depends on the service, it will either be sent Tracked 24 which will just be posted through the letter box, or Special Delivery which should require someone to be home, but not always depending on the mood of the postie. The person that receives it does not need to be the named recipient, the same with any other post, they just need to be at the address.

There are not really "questions", just that you have to fill out the required info, it varies depending on renewal. Although this is not really in any way relevant.

Yes and it must be valid.

Yes, and again, it must be valid.
  • Question A - we didn't modify the photo, we just took loads of photos the required distance away to fill the frame as per the instructions on screen, and we chose the best one to use. The online checker said it might not pass, but we thought it followed all the rules so used it anyway. It was used with no issues.

Question C - apply online, pay the money during the process and it gives you an address to post the passport back.

Question d, we applied for my stepdaughter's adult renewal on a Monday about 3 weeks ago, sent her old passport to the address they provided during the application. She got her new passport by Tracked delivery (we chose this option) the following Tuesday. So at the moment it can be very quick. I don't know if the delivery needed a signature, as it was sent to her not us. You get a tracking code the day before though.

Question F, there were surprisingly few questions to answer for the renewal.

The rest I can't remember, but the whole process took a maximum of 10 minutes, and was very easy.

  • a) I recently renewed and didn't want to take the risk of self taken photos being rejected and used a photo booth and used the digital code. Pretty sure it specifically said do not use any software to adapt the photo.

The rest have been answered above.

You could crop if you wanted as long as you maintain the aspect ratio and the required pixel counts. The website will judge the photo for you but you can override its judgement. It doesn't seem to be as good at judging those with a non-white complexion.

You do get the passport back but the front corner will be cut off which invalidates if, if it hasn't already expired.

The online system is dynamic so what it asks depends on the answers to previous questions in some cases, obviously some questions are asked to everyone.
  • We took our own photos and used the checker to give an indication, one came back rejected but took a few minutes to upload another which was accepted.

The last lot of passports we did, the guaranteed shop taken one failed so wouldn't rely on a booth or shop getting it right.

    It was all very quick

    added these questions above too.

    thanks.

In answer to your first question, when I renewed my passport a year ago I received it like a normal letter-just put through the letter box, no signature required. I was surprised by this as I assumed there would need to be some proof of delivery. When I sent my old one back I had the usual proof of posting at the P.O.

I can't remember if there was tracking available for delivery of the new passport. The process was very quick-from sending my old one to receiving the new one was only about 9 days.

it wont need to be signed for but has to be delivered, you will be provided with tracking details
  • Thank you to everyone xx. Hope to sort it this week

    a few more  questions

When you upload a photo and it gets rejected for whatever reason, does the passport site tell you instaltly?and then you can upload another one straight away, which hopefully gets accepted straight away?

or do they email you, that your application has been unsuccessful due to the photo not approved?

and at this stage have you paid money with your card?

Its instant on whether it meets the criteria or not.

As for the thousand and one questions, just doing the application would have answered pretty much every single one of them. Its not a difficult or complex process to go through the online application. You can stop at any point if there is something you don't like, but there shouldn't be. You have nothing to lose by just doing it.
