EE and 1pMobile
Hi there
I wonder if anyone might be able to offer me some advice/insight.
I am currently with EE. Last month I was caught in a pinch for data and the purchase of additional meant (to my mind) very unreasonable costs. This caused me to shop around.
My understanding is that 1pMobile offer a package (calls texts and 25GB - which is more than 3 times the amount of data EE are giving me for £10.90).
I contacted EE to see if they would like to retain my loyal 7yrs of custom by meeting this - which they could not.
My understanding is that 1pMobile piggyback the EE network (I’m in a poor service area, so keeping that the same was important to me).
However - I have been scared by the EE adviser who informed me that “we do not deal with any third party providers. If you want you can go for it however, we are the only provider of our network”
I (at this point) stated that I obviously needed to do a bit more research. The reply I then received was as follows
”No worries. I have already offered you the lowest cost possible without the broadband. . . However, researching does include directly consulting the main provider and I have already informed you that we do not deal with the third party providers. So I believe that should conclude it? Though it’s your choice of course.”
Could someone tell me for certain that 1pMobile uses the EE network and/or whether I’ve been gaslit by some kind of linguistic trickery.
Also - how do folks feel about 1pMobile.
Thank you

1pMobile piggybacks onto EE.1

You could also look at SPUSU (30GB for £9.90 until 25.11) which also (definitely) piggybacks onto EE.1

Essentially the agent was telling you that EE do not provide and sales or customer service for any provider other than themselves.
MVNO's like 1pMobile get their back end infrastructure from a mobile provider like EE (they may only buy some services e.g. they do not provide eSims) but all of the sales and customer support is provided by that MVNO provider, not EE.2 -
Myself and my partner have been using 1p mobile for a number of years and are more than happy with the service we also use them for our broadband. On the one occasion I had to contact customer service by email ( I topped up twice by mistake) the second payment was swiftly refunded.

Thank you very much 😊
Also thank you to everyone who has responded - so kind, helpful and informative 🙏

Have a read of the review of 1pMobile on the SIM Sherpa website, it might reassure you. I've been with them a while and find them very good although you may find people on here complaining about their recent minimum payment increases but that won't bother you as you are not someone who uses your phone very little.

1p Mobile work well for me, and in a “side by side” 5G data speed comparison with an EE SIM mobile, there was no noticeable difference.
An additional advantage of 1p Mobile is their overseas roaming, they are one of the few that include the Isle of Man and Channel Is for no additional cost (O2 also include these).
1p are not quite as polished with regard to swapping data bundles as GiffGaff are, but GG use the O2 network…
