They need the money not goods like bread and milk sitting out the back going out of date. they are the first things which would be replenished. Short date and fast selling goods take priority. Very few customers will go in the store and leave without milk or bread so they are not going to leave it in thee back and replenish other items first.
Bread and milk are replenished at regular intervals all day so its not about the night staff.This information was supplied by a member of Morrisons staff who was working on a till.And our local Morrisons has had a problem with empty shelves for a few years nowWhenever we have been since lockdown - they appear to have a big problem with basic goods - milk, bread, chicken etc etc - either none or very little - also out of date items still being on shelves of other less popular items
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -

It depends where you live, of course, but I'd be surprised if there weren't at least a couple of the other major supermarkets available nearby.As a slight aside, I've always found Morrisons to be one of the more expensive supermarkets. Don't shop there myself, but when I do the shopping for my elderly in-laws I go there because they "prefer" Morrisons stuff (don't get me started on that one !). But I'm always quite surprised at just how much dearer most things are compared to the other supermarkets.

Long term future is probably debatable.0 -
Out of date goods appear to be rife with Morrisons - they claim to check regularly and remove them - but we have found 3 days out of date Chicken thighs which looked ropey (yellow and dry) - took them to the woman at the customer service desk who just put them under her desk - didn't even thank us !!

Basically, they've got rid of so many people because of the losses AND cut pay that it's going to pot.3 -
@PHK
In that article in the BBC that you point to,the chap leading the union that is on strike says that Morrisons is raking in massive profits which kind of undermines your theory.
As I say spurious comments about a company that is a big employer and adds a lot to our economy are unhelpful.0 -
Another one today, a Morrisons store that let so many staff go it wasn’t being cleaned and now has a one star hygiene rating.0

IF there’s an issue, then Rachel and co may just have nailed the coffin shut0

There are no problems at all in our local Morrisons. We’ve only had the tiniest hiccups once and that was some years ago. Morrisons didn’t have any fresh tomatoes in their cafe
