Regarding the second pair, I would say burgundy is not red so would open a SNAD.

'burgundy' is definitely listed in many colour palettes as a shade of 'red'.
I agree but when you say red, yellow and blue I would imagine most people think of the examples you'd be taught in school for those primary colours.

And that's what's wrong with a lot of buyers.
    They 'imagine'.
    Or 'assume'.
    Instead of checking.

There's probably more shades of blue than there is of red.
If I saw something listed as 'blue', I'd try to determine the nearest colour the seller could come up with.

And there's only one standard colour in eBay's drop down list - blue.
    Not duck egg.
    Not navy.
    Not aquamarine.
    No...

    What does the description say?
Does it say burgundy or dark red in another part of the advert?
Always worth double checking in case you missed something.

Shouldn't have to check with a business seller (private seller possibly fair enough).

    I know.
    I referenced it here:

I agree with Soolin that burgundy is a shade of red.
When you're listing on eBay, 'burgundy' is not a standard colour option.
You have to 'add custom value' and type in 'burgundy' manually.
If I was selling a pair of red shoes, I'd describe them as 'red'.
If I was selling a pair of burgundy shoes, I'd describe them as 'burgundy'.
But...I'm anal about eBay descriptions, especially colours and sizing.
And I'll comment on which photos are most true to colour.
If I'm unsure about the colour, I'll ask the seller.

I use it almost every time I list.
Which is why you'll almost certainly never see me post on here about a buyer complaining about an incorrect colour  description or about a seller who has mis-described a colour.

I don't distinguish between a private seller and a business seller.
I check what I'm buying regardless.

I have listed a few saris recently.  As you know they are all sorts of colours.  I hate describing the colours.  Sometimes I end up writing a paragraph on what colour it is!  At the moment I have a few cherry pink, fuschia pink, baby pink, orangey pink - then for green/blues I have mint green, chutney green, lime green..........

:) Thanks for all the helpful advice. Here's my update before closing the thread. I chose to sell the 1st pair on ebay and made £5 profit. I decided to keep the 2nd pair. With just a couple of applications of brown shoe polish I managed to make them dark brown, which I prefer.

    1st pair- size 6 - private seller. I got size 40, so 6.5
2nd pair- red - business seller. I got burgundy. Photos & title & description are red.

I bought a gorgeous wool jacket on eBay.  In the photo it looked bright purple and I thought seriously “bright purple?”.  It reminded me of a bright purple hipster skirt I had as a teenager in the 60s, weren’t the 60s literally fab :D.  When I got it the colour turned out to be dark purple and a bit brighter in the daylight.

I was thrilled, the jacket was even nicer than I thought and the colour was lovely.

On this occasion I was pleased that the description wasn’t totally accurate.

I intrigued, what exact colour is “chutney green”?.  My home made green tomato chutney usually turns out brown

Chutney green is really pale green, not bright green.  Chutneys made from coriander and chillies usually don't go brown.  Not sure about green tomato chutney!
