  • Give Utility Warehouse I try. They are the cheapest we've found
  • We've moved to Octopus Snug and found that the off peak is actually 23:00 - 06:30/07:00 (sometimes there's an extra half hour!) and again between 15:00 and 16:00, the afternoon boost is very welcome :)

Having just had a Smart Meter installed by OVO recently, and been moved onto the Economy 10 tariff, I was looking into various tariffs to try and bring my bills down. I saw Snug Octopus, which looks quite tempting with the 9p per unit off peak cost, as we have oldish Dimplex storage heaters that we had for the last 18 years or so. I'm wondering if anyone has moved to this tariff, and how it has affected their monthly bills. We were around £300 last month due to the cold weather in the West Coast of Scotland. Any help much appreciated.

    There's a thread here

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6575726/snug-octopus-economy-7-problems#latest

It's focusing upon the minutia around a timing issue - from the OP post - but others are more than happy with it.

I don't know what Ovo are charging on e10 - but if you think 6+1 in winter will do rather than 10 hrs night, afternoon and late evening it's certainly worth a look.

I am on EDF Economy 11 [a legacy rate from 1970s with 8 hours overnight & 3 hours afternoon top up] for underfloor heating & hot water. I have 2 meters. I was alarmed by the RTC signal switch off but was assured by EDF that my meters would not be affected.
However EDF have just written to inform me that they are switching off Legacy Tariffs and going to fit a smart meter and charge standard rate from July 1st [2025]. As we are an all electric house this is alarming; the cost of a heat pump is not worthwhile as it's a holiday home only used for 3 or 4 months a year..

How much electricity do you typically use in a year in this property? You can them easily work out what it'll cost on a single rate tariff. Calculations for an E7 or other tariff will be a bit more complicated.

You'll be able to choose single rate or E7, and there might be other options. Have you asked EDF?

Oh = do you know if that include EDF2020 - not RTS AFAIK and E10 - which can be - but can also just be digital / smart if configured properly ?

Do Octopus offer any of their TOU specials for underfloor - like Cosy for boilers / heat pumps of Snug for restricted fed NSH ?

And what about other suppliers variable // TOU rates - as long as you avoid peak times - these might be better than e7/single rate.

    Edit
Just looking back and thinking about an Ofgem proposal - which was subject to consultation in Feb - re another conversion in another post about RTS end - it was certainly a threat to ban suppliers from supplying RTS meters - see
as reported here by @ldhund in Feb post
"the licensee cannot supply electricity to premises that rely on RTS technology"

The Ofgem link in that post I think still says closed awaiting decision
