matelodave said:how about one of these - takes both measurements and tells you the difference, although probably not ideal if you've got a very long radiator - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Temperature-Measurement-Monitoring-Electronic-Industrial/dp/B0DLNP98X9
If you try the method that @FreeBear suggest, makes sure that you check that the the two thermometer modules both read the same when clipped next to each other as they can be a bit random in their "calibration" Its what I use but then hold the sensors onto the pipe with a couple of inches of foam pipe insulation rather than clips to avoid external effects.Dang. That is a cheap product - Probably less than I spent on thermometer modules & clip-on sensors. And you are right about calibration on those cheap modules. I have several, and there is a spread of around 2°C between them. Yet replacing the standard sensor with the clip-on ones, the difference dropped to less than 0.3°C.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -

But I wanted to show that a fixed lwt does not necessarily result in horrible inefficiency.0 -
could you elaborate on that as I am about to have a heat pump installed the very same daikin monoblock and would like to know how to run it in the most efficient mod0

After 2 weekends of trying to change the radiators to balance them, and yesterday being very cold, last night I called the Octopus Heatpump dedicated aftercare line because the heating was not going over 20 degrees and the hot water tank was at 58 degrees even though it had not been scheduled to get hot for over 2 weeks (I deleted the schedules).
I was expecting a call back today (Tuesday) to arrange a visit on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
I have to say that I am very impressed with the service provided.
The "engineer" turned up today while I was at work, a family member was home.
I printed out the following this morning, along with screenshots of the app (showing the consumption of the hot water, heating and overview showing the water tank temperature) in case someone turned up:I increased the flow temperature to 60 via weather dependency curve at 5 degrees to try and get some heat. However, it is expensive, so need to change back when working.
Removed the hot water schedule slots, so should be off, but tank still gets hot
Central heating is set to 26 degrees, but never gets there. Ideally 22/23 all the time.
The heating seems to have a mind of it’s own, it is using 2kWh per hour, but not getting warm. Is it going to the tank? The tank has no schedule and is not using any energy, but is still currently at 58 degrees
I just got home from work and the house is lovely and warm, all of the radiators are on and warm too, including the two that previously were really cold.
My family member told me that the "engineer" was very impressed with the information on the printout as it made it easier for him to determine the issue.
He said the valve/switch in the loft was not working and he didn't think it had ever worked. He tried to take it apart to fix, but he ended up going to his van and getting a new one.
I feel like a bit of a fool for leaving it this long really, I should have just called them weeks ago instead.
At least we now have a warm home when we need it, especially this week2
