Budget Planner more testing needed please!

Hi everyone,

We have made some further changes to the Budget Planner and would really appreciate it if you could spare 10 mins to give some feedback.

There are still some small changes to be made, but at this stage we're really looking for bugs, glitches, breaks and technical issues.
The new budget planner will be in the tips soon, sign up to the weekly MoneySaving email at www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips

I opened this in open office and everything appeared to work OK.

    Works a little too well!!!

Gave me a shock at first, until I realised that it didn't take into account at the end that My regular monthly savings, which I do use to pay off the big one-offs (why would I leave it in my current account waiting to be wasted??) far outweighed the monthly deficit.

Looks ok to me but then I have never used one of these before. On the results it said I spent more than I earnt, but the results were green, meaning I spent less than I earnt (it was actually the amount I am aiming to put in my ISA each month - to save for double glazing)How do we save the budget planner, or are you supposed to enter the amounts every month?

I found it really easy to use. It's great how you put either a weekly/ montly or yearly amount! It also covers all the basic expenses but allows for extra too. I am actually quite impressed with myself because I managed to put all the amounts without looking at my files! Using this website has actually trained me well!

It was a bit worrying when I read that I spent more than I earned but the figures said the opposite and it was in green so that would really be my only negative point about it.

A great user friendly tool really!

Another little gripe, was just about to print it out (using open office 2.2) and it is 75 pages long

I have used this and think it's very comprehensive and yes, shocking! I couldn't for some reason download it, it opened in openoffice but then I couldn't click on any of the links so couldn't use it. I had to do the online one which I then couldn't save.

A suggestion - although you have childrens clothes you don't have a slot for childrens shoes. I entered the clothing budget but completely didn't relate it to shoes which are far more expensive than clothes. I have four young, fast growing children who each need an average of 2x trainers, 2x shoes/boots, 1x wellies, 1x sandals and 1x plimsolls per year. As an average it adds up to about £125 per child per year - £500 in total! More than many of the 'big one offs'.

We are all brainwashed into thinking it is important for childrens foot development to go to clarks or somewhere where they are measured every which way and therefore don't buy secondhand. I wonder if this is all true??

    Thanks

Worked fine in office 07 but like the others was told i spent more than I earned when i was in the green. That pie chart is so depressing to see how much of my money the house takes up! I like the comparison one though where I ditch the mortgage and other debts (in my dreams)
