So, if I go for 1 month at £9.99, do I need to give them any notice?

    No.
You cancel it on the website, and it runs until what would be your next billing date.
So you buy it on the 1st (for example) and cancel it on the 15th.  You can watch until the 1st of the following month.

If you don't cancel it just runs on until you do.
You get discount offers if you go through cancellation so you may find something you like.

You can cancel anytime and the service will stop when the month is over - I normally cancel with a couple of weeks remaining to see what deals they will offer (probably best to allow at least a couple of days before the month is over so they can stop the process of collecting payment)

That’s what I’m going to do then. One of the annoying things is, we have a Sky Q box, we have received a few VIP free movies, they are stored on the Sky Q box and we have to return it, apparently it belongs to Sky, I thought we bought it, but it means that we loose the free movies we have.
We have an old Humax Freesat box, I’ve already replaced the LNB, so, we’ll use that to record anything we need to, but will probably use catch up services

You will still own the movies in the 'cloud' so to speak, via your Sky ID, even if you are no longer a Sky TV customer.

    From https://www.skystore.com/n/hwtw/help/faq/ways-to-watch
You can also watch Buy & Keep movies and TV shows on your:
    - PC/Mac
    - Android/iOS using the Sky Store app
    - NOW TV and Roku
    - LG Smart TV (WebOS3 or above)
