Hi, community fibre is available in my area and the prices seem just as cheap as
More traditional ( less fast) broadband options. Is there any reason not to take up Fibre to property? Thanks

None that I can think of.1 -
If you don't need a landline (who does these days?) then it's cheaper than broadband and also faster.
I upgraded from 76MB broadband to 900MB fibre some months ago. To be honest I haven't noticed much of an improvement in performance. I'm paying a lot less though, especially since I was with BT before.1 -
If you have devices that are not compatible with VoIP, alarms, medical equipment etc
If you need a home phone service that works during power cuts.

If you are vulnerable then your supplier should supply additional equipment to enable the phone line to work if there is a power cut.
Alarm companies have had donkeys years to sort out the issue but have turned a blind eye to the problem. They choose to blame the phone companies for their refusal to investEx forum ambassador

For most people there's no reason not to, connections will keep moving over to fibre so if it's not more expensive you might as well change. You often don't get a phone line but most people use mobiles these days as it's cheaper, as mentioned it's only if you have alarms or medical equipment that the manufacturer hasn't bothered to update that you might need a phone line still.

I've been putting it off because adding the physical cabling to get fibre service to where it's needed in my house (as opposed to the BT phone wires that currently do the job) will be extensive, intrusive and costly. Damn Victorian cowboy house builders, not putting in ducting for Cat 5 cable.1
